Really nice TR, Roundguy. To say I am hungry after reading this would be quite an understatement.

Awesome work RoundGuy. The Smitty's pile looks really unappetizing to me even tho I know it's delicious :/

i love beef ribs. My mom used to make them with some kind of thin, mustard, vinegar and onion sauce, it was amazing. I do like baby-back ribs as well, but there arent many things quite like beef ribs done right

It ain't pretty, for sure, but the deliciousness contained in that pile can barely be described.

Will get a couple more meals posted tonight. If I remember right, these are some decent pics.

Absolutely. It's a very fine line between tender, juice, awesome, and tough, dry, inedible.

I've never done a good beef rib on my own, but Black's has it down to a science.

Well, 3 out the last 4 meals were incredible mass quantities of Texas BBQ. I'm a believer. I've got to give Texas a HUGE thumbs up here. But, time to move on. No more BBQ until Memphis on Day 10.

Day 6 Dinner, New Braunfel's, TX:

New Braunfel's in known for their excellent German restaurants. I had chosen one that promised fresh, warm, homemade Bavarian pretzels. I've been to Bavaria. I love their pretzels. But, of course, the first thing Papa RG says, "do they have veal schnitzel"?

Of course, they didn't. But Oma's Haus did.

Papa RG went traditional, but I stepped a bit "out of the box", with a Tex-Mex schnitzel. This sauce was EXTREME. Let's just say I was well "cleaned out" the next day -- with a burning ass hole to prove it. The food was awesome, but I should have gone with the old man on this one.

Day 7 lunch, Houston, TX.

That's right, Jewish deli time! Kenny and Ziggy's. This menu would make any traditional New Yorker proud as hell.

I went with the traditional Pastrami on Rye w/mustard, but Papa RG decided to go off the charts with a Monte Christo:

Un-freaking-real. Just to put this in perspective, my sandwich had about 20 layers of Pastrami, and Papa RG's sandwich absolutely DWARFED it! He didn't finish it. Not a cheap place to eat. $36 for what you see here.

Next up, Cajun country and New Orleans!

Note to self: Do NOT read this thread before lunch. Especially when there isn't a good deli within 100 miles.

Please keep the food pr0n coming!

Sorry for the delay. I got pulled over by a Dids and spent a few days in solitary. Busy weekend, but we'll get back on track.

Just saw Kenny and Ziggy's on Diner's, Drive-ins, and Dives. That menu had at least a HUNDRED items. I would eat there every day if I lived close (and had the money). SO much goodness to choose from. I think their menu is online.

And thanks for the move to OOT, Cit. More to come.

So, for reasons Papa RoundGuy can't explain, and I don't really understand, he LOVES New Orleans. He's been there a dozen times. PRG doesn't really care for seafood, or spicy food, and he doesn't drink. Wtf? I think he's just fascinated with the Cajun culture (which I fully understand) and New Orleans reminds him of Europe (which I didn't really get that much). In any case, here we go:

Day 7 Dinner:

Breaux Bridge, LA at the former "Mulate's", Papa RG's favorite restaurant on the way to New Orleans:

I started with a salad and fried alligator:

And of course, the requisite cajun band:

We didn't buy the CD.

Then, PRG surprised me and joined me in getting the frog leg dinner. FROG LEGS? I never would have dreamed he'd eat frog legs:

They were incredible -- fresh, perfectly fried, and very, very rich. If I do it again, I'd go with the frog leg appetizer, and the alligator for dinner.

If you ever find yourself near Lafayette, LA, you need to hit up Breaux Bridge. It's pure, authentic Cajun culture. Incredible.

I know you guys are doing the meat thing, but to not have at least sampled the smoked fish at Kenny and Ziggy's is a crying shame.
