Every time my roommate goes to the bathroom, he leaves the door open. He leaves the door open when he pees, he leaves the door open when he craps, he leaves the door open when he showers. Every time he does this, I die a little bit on the inside. Where I come from, people close the doors when they use the bathroom.

My roommate sees it differently. His toilet and shower are to the left of the door, so when he leaves the door open, nobody can see him. He argues that since nobody can see him, that it is A-ok.

My roommate and I have argued on this point for the last month, and I pose the question to the quite rational forces of OOT. I have included a picture crudely drawn with my laptop's touchpad for easy reference.

Pissing is close, but crapping you have a point as the smell will pervade the house.

the only unacceptable situation is going #2, other than that, who cares? i mean if guests are over or something, then sure, it can be a bit awkward.

lol this type of **** doesn't bother me at all but i know some of my current roommates don't really like it so i usually close the door. at my old house, downstairs bathroom was right next to someones bedroom so i would always **** with the door open just to make sure he heard the sound effects and got the full smell of ****

It's not really unreasonable to do this while peeing but for the other things he needs to close the door to avoid being a weirdo, and since you expressed concern, he should just close the door while peeing also.

Peeing is fine, showering is preferred, in case you need to grab something from the cabinet or whatever, but who doesn't want to poo in peace?

I prefer peeing with the door open when no guest are over. Its an in and out procedure, no need to waste time opening or closing doors.

I would prefer a closed door for the other two, but perhaps I could understand showering with the door open. ****ting is definetly closed door though. For instance take your standard locker room... Urinals out in the open, sometimes open area for showering, sometimes stalls, but you always have closed stalls for ****ting.

Yeah but those stalls have doors that swing inward.

I know a guy who insisted that you couldn't have true intimacy unless you had a open door bathroom policy with your SO. He though there was nothing wrong with taking a **** while his GF brushes her teeth. I always though the guy was a freak. Some things are just meant to be done in private. Lately though I've been looking at condos and one had clear glass doors on all the bathrooms (including the one the guests would use) and another had a glass bathroom that you could see into from other rooms although only above the waist -- but still.

If I brushed my teeth in the bathroom while someone was deucing I would yack for sure.
