Someone needs to insert a "livingroom lathe" into the wiki.

Posts made between the OP and this past September weren't imported, but they still exist on the old server.

Can anyone post a link to a website or forum that has a section that deals with roomate rants. I love reading about these crappy situations.

Appears that said "lathe geek" is now banned from Wikipedia. I wonder if the picture was re-added, if it would last longer now?

Original thread is gold. We need to keep it forever somehow...

Brilliant! I love the part where he insults OP's furniture. That was uncalled for, i think it is a decent sofa.

I dont think you guys should mess with wikipedia, I bet you all use it alot as a reference and messing with it just for fun isnt cool. Its a serious encyclopedia and not a place to post fun pictures just because you like them.

No it's not. People work really hard on wikipedia, and millions of people use it every day and get a lot of useful info off it. (Admitedly I haven't referenced the lathe article recently, but thats not the point.)

The job is made difficult by idiots vandalising articles with comments like "Bob/Ivan/Ahmed smells like poo" and repeatedly adding a completely irrelevent picture of a lathe just because a small group on a message board thinks it is funny is only a marginal step up from that.

So yeah, not big and not clever in my opinion. After you cope with this **** over and over again you get a bit tired of it.

Sorry pal, I really thought you were kidding. I use Wiki a lot, and to be honest I have never encountered anything like this. It could just be the boring stuff I reference though (usually history or literature related).

No problem. The reason you dont see it often is that alot of people spend time that could be put to better use monitoring pages and deleting vandalsim as soon as it occurs, which is why the lathe picture didn't last very long.

I know the roommate in question and he only put the lathe in the living room because he thought everyone else might want to use it. Also, he needs woodworking to relieve the stress of his oat running job.

so this is where the lathe thing came from.

question: has the lathe been turned on yet? has it been used?

seriously. it's unhealthy to have sawdust in your living space like that. your snot will be a mixture of fine dust and boogers.

also, it probably pulls enough juice to blow a fuse with anything else running on the same breaker (like the TV). it's a giant fail if he was hoping to watch TV and lathe at the same time -- they cancelled all the good lathe-related shows.
