Yup, Human growth hormone goes up and you gear your body up to burn fat and build muscle. Watch a video by Dr. Rhonda Patric or another science head. IF gears the body up for higher performance and also puts it into what is has been called a rest and repair mode where it cleans up and repairs cells thru out the body, starts atophagy all over and in the brain creating new brain cells as well as cleaning up DNA.

It's kinda like it gears the body up for performance and maintenance where it's like a tune up for the body. This is all info I learned years ago maybe 2012 or so, I suggest you look into it cuz who knows what new info has come out now.

edit: Oh ya it has something going on with insulin insensitivity and can help reverse type 2 pre and ongoing diabetes. I actually taught someone about this and good diet and reversed their pre diabetes.

You mean Guyenet? I just saw one with him and Taubes. I haven't listened and probably won't because Taubes is a charlatan of the highest order.

For the first time in a while I feel like I overdid it. Had a couple beers after my group tempo run and came back home super hungry. Ate 2 slices of a large pizza, a huge bowl of pasta, two ounces of chocolate covered almonds and finished it of with a pint of Talenti gelato. Now I am feeling awful and wonder how fat people manage to do that daily?

You should try a dozen or so apples with Adam's peanut butter after a long run.

New brain cells and cleaning up DNA. It's a miracle diet!

Lol, this could not be further from the truth. Are you a diet/health scientist or just a random person on the internet regurgitating something you heard someone else say, who was equally unqualified?

Try reading all the science on this topic. Bet you wont. People that have say completely different things than you, marinate on that, let it sink in bud.

What's the key to weight loss/gain, and how come there's so many fat people who know the secret to losing weight?

How come anorexics lose weight by eating 300 calories a day instead of eating 3000 calories of bacon once a day?

Seriously, give us your abc's to weight loss, or at least link some studies, instead of ad hominem attacks.

Sorry, already have. And I try to stay current. Why don't you post something that I might have missed. Maybe I'll learn something. Bud.

Next to the typical US/1st world diet, ya you're exactly right. Fasting will keep you younger and healthier longer, meanwhile you eat like 1st worlders and the human body goes to **** before middle age.

You can spew calories on that all day, if you have high levels of cortisol in your system your body holds on to them fat cells like it's a life raft in the middle of the Pacific Ocean.

Constant feeding does increase risk of some issues like insulin resistance. They found this with IV feedings in hospital settings. There does seem to be a benefit for periods of at least 3 hours between meals.

But you don't need to fast for 16 hours or anything like that for autophagy or anything like that. Especially when you consider IFers often graze during their entire 8 hour feeding period.

You need to study more science. Look up Dr. Rhonda Patrick and her fasting vids, you are contradicting lots of science. 16 hours is exactly what you need to get into that gear repairing your body at a higher level as well as getting a lot of other benefits.

They've even done comparisons on restricted eating (1500 calories or less a day) and fasting and fasting comes out on top in many ways.

No, it really isn't. Cell autophagy is going on regularly.

I'm familiar with Dr. Rhonda Patrick. If you have specific studies I'll be happy to look at them.

Brief search on youtube has a video from a few years ago (like 5 years after twinkie diet). He's thinner than Dr. Fung, just saying.
