Rent for sleeping on a couch? Rent for sleeping on a couch?

There are truck stops all over Palm Springs, 3 of them within a mile of Spotlight. You know who is at those truck stops? People sleeping in their vehicles, hundreds of people sleeping in their vehicles. In fact, there are dozens of people sleeping in trucks IN THE CASINO PARKING LOT. You know what else? Those people all sleeping in their vehicles have millions of dollars worth of goods directly behind them. You are a ****ing nimrod.

Last edited by froegg; 12-08-2013 at 01:41 AM. Reason: also 10 dollar showers cleaned between users at the truck stops.

Okay, I can admit when I was utterly and totally wrong. I just never ever imagined that comedy gold like this would be forthcoming:

Driving (wear & tear + time): nominal
food: 2 meals/week, living at home, -20/week, -80/month
estimated time playing

sum: +2780/month

this is assuming you are a 25/hour player. you realize 25/hour is ABSOLUTELY CRUSHING 1/2, right?

now maybe you are that good, but honestly, with your low BR, i, personally, would 'suffer' a lower winrate at a tougher casino than spend extra money on ancillary things, which you basically dont have, to make a few extra $/hour. what happens when you run cold and blow 6 buy ins in a weekend?

make no mistake, you are spending 1 buy in every month just to sleep in a 2nd apartment. that is awful BR management. and BRM is what will make or break you at the beginning.

when did poker become a ****ing popularity contest?!

the fact is, you will be spending an inordinate amount of time in a casino, something that society in general sees as being a degenerate. who the fukc cares what joe blow regular thinks of you?!?

the more i see you write the more i wonder if you're cut out for this. you realize pretty much like 90+% of people you tell about playing poker are going to try to talk you out of it, right? parents, friends, ladies, basically anyone who doesnt know about poker and think it's like playing slots.

but you're worried about a guy seeing you brush your teeth...

I appreciate those calculations, but I gotta run now. I'll take a look at them later

Fwiw though, I would be proud of myself if I could beat the $2/$3 at the Bike for $20/hr. I mean ffs, I saw one dude wearing a Deuces Cracked sweater one time

OP, You might want to check some of these threads about.

How Many Of You Have Slept in Your Cars?

living out of my car in florida...

I tried searching for a thread where the guy slept in the garage of some casino but I couldn't find it. IIRC he posted pictures and had the whole hygiene thing down. Take back your money and sleep in your car.

I'd imagine a 1/2 reg caught brushing his teeth anywhere would be cause for ostracization.

I would feel kind of sick sleeping in the landlord's room. All kinds of f*cked up. Here are the options I'm considering:

1) Use the threat of legal action to get the couch for free until the landlord leaves for China (mid-late January), then rent her room on a 3 month contract for $200/mo with no deposit

I would do month to month right away, but I'm sure she hates my guts at this point, so she could just let me do one month then not let me do the next month (via her boyfriend that isn't coming with her to China). There's a good chance that she could advertise the room and easily find a new tenant that would pay more per month

2) Do the car thing

Food, running water, and electricity bother me about this decision though. At least at the rented room, I had cup a noodles and access to a microwave to just heat hot water. And a pot to piss in. Maybe I'll just park by a 24 hour fitness since I have membership there anyway

I hope you understand that this had the complete opposite effect. Any reasonable person would take you less seriously. Threatening legal action over a 3-month "contract" worth $960 makes you look like exactly what you are: a dumb kid who has no idea how the world works. If I were her, I would have dared you to take legal action just for the lolz. Good luck finding a lawyer for anything under a $3,000 retainer.

I don't know how I missed that OP thinks he's crushing 1/2 based on the equivalent of 2-3 live sessions, which comes out to about 1000 hands of poker. lol.

Also, I have never in my entire life played in a tough 1/2 NL live game.

Seriously, if I'm reading that right, then it's all the more reason to pay an extra $5-10 a night for a cheap motel. You lose a few bucks but don't lock yourself in to a longer obligation. Spending an extra $80 for the first month is a small price to pay to see how this goes before becoming committed.

Also, if you've never played much live poker, it gets old real quickly. Spending your entire weekend grinding a couple 12-15 hour sessions sucks. You're probably going to want a weekend off at least once a month. That alone will make the motel option worth it. You can go grind a 10-hour session at Commerce or the Bike that weekend and "take it easy" as it were.

you've been against the whole sleeping in your car thing from the start because you've said many times you think its unsafe, yet sleeping on a couch with 4 roommates you've never met with a landlord you think hates you is safer? ps - threatening legal action usually isn't a way to endear yourself to someone...

what happens if you stop at 6am an have a few $k on you? you can't go to a bank in the middle of the night. leave it in your car? where do you keep your keys?

personally, i've slept in my car a few times. on the side of the road, at rest stops, in casino parking lots, i've never felt unsafe about it.

sleeping in casino parking lot - you have a bathroom within eyesight (assuming they don't close). your gym is open 24 hours, you have everything within walking distance, bathroom, showers, electricity. talk to the staff, they may let you use the microwave every now and then

The whole plan is absurd.

It's actually quite funny to think of some dude desperately trying to get some sleep after a night on the grind with two dogs and a cat running around. People coming and going, using the kitchen. You have no chance. Do you think people are going to be quiet because some down and out has rented the couch.

How many hours do you plan to play and when? Do you even know?

When do you plan to sleep? What time of the day?

I'd love to see pics of the couch?

I can just go to an ATM for the $ issue. That's what I did for my first session (even though I had the room already)

This will probably add to how delusional I am, but yeah...I drive a Lexus, so I feel like that makes me a target for getting attacked at night. But froegg brought up truck stops, which sort of negates that

Wow.

Ok, so how would this play out in small claims court?

It seems like the landlord was willing to give up her room in order to fulfill the contract, shouldn't that eb enough?. Why would you be getting the room for $200?
