You are getting ripped off. When I section hiked AT 2 years ago, I would pay anywhere from $5-20 a night to stay at a hostel or whatever. You are basically paying $50 a night to sleep on a couch.

Talk to hotel owners in area. Chances are they will give you a good deal if you can stay 2-3x a night every week. You can probably get a hotel room for $30-40 a night and have same experience w/o having to share room w/ anyone.

My idea of weekend nights is Friday and Saturday night. I'm assuming OP is sleeping in own bed Sunday night.

OP,

I'm pretty sure you're getting ripped off.

https://www.couchsurfing.org/

But saying that, why don't you entertain us some and ask for some really weird crap? Say to her that you value your privacy so you want a sheet hung up around the couch on curtain rods. Tell her that it has to be a blue sheet because you sleep like a baby around the colour blue.

Also, we had a bunch of people stay at our place once for what turned out to be an extended period of time. One guy negotiated to sleep under the television. So we would be watching TV while he was trying to sleep. Once he woke up and asked us if it would be okay if he could rub one out, but we told him that that wouldn't be acceptable in the circumstances.

Still a lot less than your $50 estimate, still an ok deal IMO

OP, only way this deal is worth it is if you wake up every morning with the pussy on your face and the dog licking your balls.

Her only leverage is she has your money.

From a supply and demand standpoint she is screwed. There will not be a line of people waiting to rent that couch. She should give you three months sofa access for free just for screwing you over on the room. After that you should pay as you use. Any weekend you show up give her $40.00

First thing is to get your money back then decide if you still want to deal with her sketchiness. You should not pay in advance except as you show up on a particular weekend.

Also the idea that nobody living there will want to use the living room or kitchen each weekend is pretty much zero. Have fun when one of them brings the drunk party back to the place as you are going to sleep.

Get the money back. Negotiate from the position that nobody else wants that sofa. Better yet follow the advice itt to just stay in LA. Given your reasoning skills displayed here I suspect your reasons for doing this in the first place are completely wacky and misguided.

I don't like poker and don't care about it but others here would be happy to help you analyze the real benefit of doing this in the first place. The fact that we are talking about a couple hundred a month for lodging, whatever you have going on is not terribly profitable so some serious analysis should go into doing it in the first place. A fifty dollar a night room for ten nights a month is five hundred dollars. That means this scheme is not even bringing you $125 a weekend to break even. Realize the difference between the room and the sofa is only three hundred a month or $75 a weekend. So this whole plan of yours is not allowing you to spend an extra 75 dollars a week on lodging.

It really seems like you have overthought the whole thing and are stuck in a place that you will not allow common sense to reach.

Tens, something is not being said here. Is there something else you want to tell us? Your poker skills, some chic in the equation, something in Palm Springs, someone in the house?

so u say you do not have any valuables but yet say u r playing live poker as your job. from experience and a common sense standpoint, i am going to assume you're going to have thousands of dollars of cash and chips on you. You're going to be sleeping in a common area where everybody is welcome in the house so it wouldn't be sketchy if they were by your wallet/pants pockets. you met these ppl on craigslist and are already being angle shot. from the outside looking in you look like a complete clown. are you 18 and just moving out from your parents? get a clue dude.

I sleep on a couch bed. I use a thermarest sleeping pad that to me is more comfortable than a bed. House with five total people. I have my own "room", but no doors. It's basically a dining room converted. I use a changing partition to separate myself from time to time. I am here every night if not staying over somewhere else. I pay $200 a month. I think you may be getting a raw deal.

What type of living situation are you most comfortable with? What types of situations have you been in before? I am making an assumption that maybe you don't have a lot of experience in varying living conditions?

I'm most weirded out by the lack of privacy. You're just exposed like that on a couch trying to sleep. What about when some bearded hobo (the one renting your old room) decides to try and find your wallet in the middle of the night. Or maybe tries lick your ass crack.

But maybe they'll be cool

Seriously though how can you be comfortable sleeping on a couch with strangers just walking around?

At least when you're sleeping on a plane or w/e there are other passengers and the occasional steward around. You can assume that the kinds of people in the place haven't made the best life decisions and I highly doubt the owner has background checked anybody.

^Yeah, I think I'll only agree to it if there's some agreement where everyone is in their rooms by 12:00 am or something. I mentioned earlier that although this was only for one night, people were in their rooms for the most part.

I don't I guess. I've been sleeping on a crappy mattress for a few years. Crappy in the sense that the covers slide off constantly because it's made of material that's intended to prevent liquids from soaking in (like sweat). It's at an apartment across my school, you could practically consider it a dorm since the vast majority of people in it are students.

After googling it, I'm still not sure what you mean by a "raw deal", since google says a raw deal means unfair treatment but my situation mirrors yours pretty closely. Unless you are implying that you are currently getting screwed and that I'm on track to follow suit

I guess one thing worth pointing out is that I'm technically under-rolled for this poker endeavor

BR - $2500
Savings - $5000

I'm trying my absolute hardest to not use my savings when playing $1/$2 and $1/$3. So my financial cushion is pretty slim here. I'm in the process of selling a couple more things that should increase my BR by $800 or so. So yeah, that's why saving $120/mo means so much to me. And not having to pay rent for the next 2 months if I take the couch deal adds some mental stability

I didn't find waiting for my BR to increase as an option since the opportunity to have a place to sleep/shower for much less than standard hotels/motels wouldn't have lasted forever

Do you have a car with you? If so, the road warrior move is to cut your hair real short, buy an electric razor, get a blanket, gallon water jug, toothbrush & toothpaste, toilet paper, and definitely stock up on wet-wipes. Locate a laundromat and a public bathroom and all of your essentials are covered.

Not pretty but very manageable. If you have a car and aren't a woman or something. Ghetto as hell but then so is being the 30th guy to sleep on a couch in a flophouse.

I don't think id be comfortable in your situation long term. Especially with people I didn't know well. The house im in has people who all know each other very well. I would def check out airbnb if you're only needing a place on weekends. You'll meet some interesting people too

You just willingly downgraded yourself from a private room to a flophouse couch to save $120 a month. And you think I'm trolling you for suggesting that you crash in your car those days to save another $200 a month?
