I would honestly feel safer sleeping in my car than on a sofa under these same circumstances. 1/2 the house already hates you and they haven't even met you.

What about the tenants tho? Are you going to sleep with your pants on? Hide your stash under your pillow? This is why you should have gotten the room!

He's sleeping on a couch. He should pretty much always be sleeping fully dressed. He just needs to worry about the degens following him home after a huge score.

I don't mean this sarcastically since you've been pretty cool itt, but I don't think it's likely they are going to dig through my things since I will be right in front of them. Sure I'm asleep, but I don't think it changes things that much. And if anyone is really capable of doing that, I'm not sure a door between me and that person/people (ie room instead of couch) will do much to prevent that.

BUT if that's still a concern, I can just sleep in my car (parked outside of the said house).

I see you live in SoCal too. It's been 40 degrees past midnight. Can you imagine sleeping in your car under those circumstances? I mean, I might do just that, but I'm not excited about it.

OP,

Have you contacted any hotel managers directly to see if they'll give you a reduced rate for guaranteed occupancy? You'd need to talk with a live person for this.

Have you put up your own ad on craigslist under housing wanted? You'd probably get at least a few replies.

For sleeping in the car - I've slept in a car north of the Arctic Circle at much lower than 40f and was fine. You just need a good sleeping bag and preferably a good sleeping pad under it.

@z4reio

Yeah, I know that's something grinders in LA deal with on occasion. I will be very attentive when I'm driving back and can take alternative routes to throw them off, or figure out where the closest police station is and drive there

Ah, the irony. You'll have a better chance of getting rolled up on in front of that house than the casino parking lot. Also, be funny explaining to a cop why you're sleeping in front of the house you're leasing when he starts questioning the vagrant sleeping in a Lexus.

Tens, outside of your little SoCal cocoon people actually camp in the mountains in the middle of winter, with temperatures dropping way below freezing. They live to tell all about it too, because they use sleeping bags that are specially rated for those temperatures. Do a search on "sleeping bags" and you may be pleasantly surprised.

Having said that, sleeping in your car sounds like a terrible idea. But if you're hell bent on saving money that's definitely the way to go.

Tens,

"Yeah, I know that's something grinders in LA deal with on occasion."

I'm pretty sure 1-2 grinders are not being targeted often for follow home robberies.

You would be incorrect. There are stories on 2p2 about it

I suspect that the reason OP hasn't addressed the cost of gas for all this driving is that his parents pay for it.

To be fair, this is probably going to be a problem wherever he goes.

Yep, totally doing this on your own without funding from your parents!

Yeah I'd definitely not be comfortable with this regardless at this point.

I used to live in my car at a point as well and think it's OK for short periods of time, if you're young and can deal with it. The worst part is random interruptions/unwanted attention and not feeling safe when parking in public. I'd look into renting a garage space within a storage facility just outside town and inquire about it being OK sleeping there, seems you can get a decent place like that for about $50/month (security, alarms etc..). I value privacy a bit more than that comfortable couch with a random. Get a shower/hygiene when needed by paying the minimum entry to a public swimming pool. That would probably be my solution, either way GL with this

If you must, why not....

Arrive at casino on Friday around 7-8 pm. Play through the night stacking the fish. Leave casino at around 9-10 am Saturday morning.

Go to hotel and get a room you can check into straight away for the Saturday night. Sleep in safety and comfort till say 4-5 pm. Get up go back to casino, stack more fish till say 4am. Go back to hotel and sleep till checkout time. More poker then drive home around 8pm.

This way you're only paying for one night per weekend and you only have to pay the weekends you play.

Or sleep in boot of Lexus.

Lifted himself up by his own bootstraps. 'Murica! What a country.

Spoiler:
Imagine how proud his parents would be to know that he's renting a couch to sleep on. But to his credit, he doesn't want to over-pay.

"killed by roommate" into google... "About 6,660,000 results"

i'm not sure why you think because someone pays rent they are presumably trustworth. fact is, you're possibly renting space from someone who already backed out of a deal and offered you a couch. or some convoluted system of you and some rando having a bed+couch. not a great start in my book

it's kinda the same reason why people suggest sleeping in your car under a dome in the parking lot, rather then finding some dark alley... if you're in a room, people can't see you. if your out in the open and they see your pants, they might take a look quietly. then you wake up sans-bankroll and 4 different people who could have done it. then what? call the cops? have fun with that... it's just more trouble than its worth.

if you're going to end up sleeping in your car anyway, why would you pay to sleep on a couch for minimal hours?

and for the love of god, have you even checked couchsurfing.com?? its a legit sight for renting couches. they probably have the best reference of if you're paying too much...

again, buy a good sleeping back. you could get a descent one in any sporting good store. people slept outside for thousands of years with less technology, i'm sure you could figure it out

If OP goes and does this and loses his entire roll on the first weekend, (which is a good possibility based on his responses here), I wonder how he would frame it if he posted again in this thread? Come to think of it, do we have a fixed date for this epic weekend of gambling?

I'm going to start sleeping on the couch in my living room and paying myself $200/month to do it -- what a bargain!

OP: install a lathe in the Chinese lady's living room.
