And I appreciate the kind words, but just to reiterate - I'm not trying to play professionally. I just want a decent source of income with low hours, aka poker. Pass on a $15/hr job at retail or wherever else imo
I can teach you to earn $7000 a month, working at home!

Get the landlady to send a pic of the couch so we can see what we're talking about here.

Is it a long or short couch?

How tall are you?

Maybe get her to send a pic with her laying down on said couch so we can get a good idea of the size.

If you can get the Boyfriend in there also, it would make it easier to judge.

The plan is so absurd it might just work.

Life's an adventure my friend. Sometimes you just gotta do what a mans gotta do.

Get lots of pictures or it will all be for nothing.

Go get 'em tiger?

And btw, hotels/motels are more expensive during the holiday season. So whatever BS'ed price you googled isn't accurate. I suppose I appreciate the effort though, even though you're consistently being a dick
By the way I quoted $56 motel 6 for this past Friday night. I could have booked it.

You seem unwise in the ways of the world young grasshopper but amazingly obstinate at the same time.

Pro tip: get Prince Albert piercing and hook it to your car keys when sleeping. It is much more likely your car will get jacked by a roomate or a friend of a roomate then it will get jacked with you sleeping in it in a fairly well designated area. Might not be bad to have some sort of secure wallet where you can run a laptop cable through it and hook it up to the piercing as well. That keeps your money and keys fairly secure. Well at least you will know if anyone takes them.

lol.

seriously?

buddy, look, i'm gonna let you in on a secret. not many people know this, so don't tell anyone:

in an effort to turn a profit, Toyota, the parent company of Lexus, has decided they will make multiple of each make and model of every car they make. they also make multiple of each color!

i'm sure you're not the only person driving said make/model/color of the car you own.

for the record: 2012 blue Subaru Forester or 1966 silver Ford Mustang. i live in an area that i can play in AC, Parx, or Harrahs Philly without much effort. bring it all you would be car jackers...

Óh, you're doomed now. And you've brought your future carjacking all on yourself. Don't you know that carjackers routinely monitor internet forums for their victims?

Why not ask your parents to get you something like this? ( Chevy HHR Panel Wagon )You can pick up a used one fairly cheap and it's probably better on gas mileage than your Lexus, the back seats fold flat so you could sleep in the back of it as you can see it's paneled up so you wouldn't been seen sleeping.

Would be better than a couch IMO or you could buy one yourself and get rid of it if or when you got tired of grinding.

OP,

You've been given an out to get your money back, take it. There are other options available to you, no need to rope yourself into something when you're just starting this venture. Try them out and re-evaluate.

OP - I have no objection to your little adventure. Going to play cards in another city 2 hours away, trying to prove to your parents that you can make ends meet with poker (instead of the $15/hour office/mall job they suggested you take) and doing it all as a 3 month experiment is not that bad a plan. I can also see why you are so insistant on cutting some corners to save a few dollars (your dad told you to treat this as an investment and not splurge/party your profits away, didn't he?). Your problem is that to make this work, you need living accomodations to be free and the only way to do that is to live in your car. Your parents would NEVER go for that, would they? You thought telling them you were renting a room in someones house was a good plan, but you know they would be upset to find out it was a couch, don't you? You were gonna keep that to yourself, weren't you?

Most of the good advice is already in this thread (rest stops, 24 hour Walmarts and gyms, cheap motels as a one month trial and then maybe something more permanent; as well as checking, religiously, for new posts in the cheap accomodations section of Craigslist). I will only ad one more thing, ALWAYS tell someone who cares about you exactly where you are. I know you have to lie to your parents, and that's ok, but tell a trusted friend or sibling so that if things go sideways, at least they will know where to look for you.

BTW - be very careful about telling anyone you live with WHY you are there. They will not know if you deposited your winnings via ATM and will just assume that as a gambler, you must have some cash on you. You will likely be a target if people know you are there to play cards for a living.

This thread has made me what to play poker. I've decided to go to Biloxi next week. I'm going to either sleep in my car or rent a couch.

Spoiler:
But nah, I'm staying in a nice comfy hotel room in the casino.

Have your parents buy the house and then sleep on the couch for free. That'll show that Chinawoman what's up.

OP,
Tell the woman you'll take the couch, pay her the money, but then never show up. Then, every night around 9-10pm, everyone in the house will be really uncomfortable and not sure what to do - "Do we have to get off the couch now even if he's not here?"

That'll show 'em.

My parents actually know nothing about this, and I obv intend to keep it that way. My roll is strictly from my own grinding as well as investing and reselling other things. Thanks for the last words of wisdom. That's something I'm doing, but yeah it's nice to have someone point mention it for advice as well.

And ^^ explains why I have no intention of asking for any funding from my parents during this endeavor. Plus, the idea of doing this is to do something on my own.

I would do month to month right away, but I'm sure she hates my guts at this point, so she could just let me do one month then not let me do the next month (via her boyfriend that isn't coming with her to China). There's a good chance that she could advertise the room and easily find a new tenant that would pay more per month
I was hoping for more feedback on this. I figured, if anything, I could just try to get the couch for free until she leaves for China (disregarding renting her room for the moment) and if I get woken up at 7am or something, that's when I can sleep in my car. Safe environment, and I'm steps away from food, a bathroom, and running water.

I don't see how anyone can suggest it's safer to sleep in my car than in a house full of people that pay rent.
