I can't say I remember what we argued about either. But yeah, MJ's dad died because someone killed him while he took a nap in his car

You've got $7500 to your name. That's not a great time to play for a living. Get a job and play on the side.

Things just got interesting lol. And I'm not playing for a living btw, I still go to school. I just want to play on weekends

But yeah. So the landlord gave out the room already even though we were still under the contract. She's offering me all my money back or the couch for $250 or something stupid. I threatened legal action...I'll upload the texts now

LOOOL Get your money back, threatening someone renting out a couch with legal action is the WOAT decision. You were worried about them not liking you? They'll probably let you have the room then slash your neck from ear to ear for your shenanigans.

She broke our contract. That's what you do when someone breaks a contract.

Current situation:

She wants to avoid legal action at all costs, so she's willing to give me HER room from Friday - Sunday for $320/mo

I'm going to try to get her room for $150/mo. Borderline blackmail I suppose

This has just been a complicated way for her to manouver herself into your undeserving pants. She'll agree to the $150 and then you'll be sleeping there and she'll be like, "Oh, I'm so tired, just let me crawl into bed with you, nothing will happen," and you'll be like, "No, no, that would be weird," and then she'll be like, "But it's been such a long time, I have needs," and then you'll be thinking, "Damn, OOT was right."

I'd pay a king's ransom to have the landlady join this thread.

You signed a contract for a room and you're getting a room, what are you going to threaten her with? "Oh, I signed the contract for that room". If you go this rout she'll have the other person sleep in her room, you in the original room and you'll be back to step one except everyone in the house will hate you.

what an outrage. she only offered your money back. you should definitely demand emotional distress and punitive damages. start looking for lawyers.

For the record, she's going to China in the middle of January (and will be gone for several months) so the room will be vacant. So I don't feel as bad as I should for taking her room

OP is offered best possible outcome in OOT's opinion.
OP feels slighted and threatens legal action.

Standard.

People seemed to suggest room >>> coach for the most part

If I get my money back, I get neither. I need a place to stay if I grind in Palm Springs over the weekends for a cheaper price than hotels/motels

What do you mean "if"? The only way this is cheaper than a motel is if you are there every weekend. And even then, it's iffy.

This thread almost seems like a level except it's not really interesting enough to be a level. OP almost seems like dangerw. Does he still post?

Get your money back now while you still have the chance. Sleep in your car for the first couple of months while you figure out if playing in Palm springs is really worth the hassle. Seriously. There's no reason to get so heavily invested without knowing if it is profitable enough to justify all the travel and other expenses. Given your roll, cutting back from 320/month to 200/month isn't enough; you need to be looking for the essentially free option.

Find a church or YMCA nearby that would be comfortable letting you stay in the parking lot overnight. Monthly YMCA membership should be less than $25 for a place to shower, otherwise a gym membership should be comparable. Find a Starbucks for WiFi during the day before you head to wherever you're playing. I'm assuming you already had some plan for food. Does the room you are going to be playing in offer any sort of hotel comp/incentive? It's possible that after a month or two of play you may be able to get a significantly reduced price on a hotel stay from time to time.

What hours of the day do you see yourself grinding?

Surely Friday night is gonna be 8pm till say 8-9am. Saturday day sleep on couch in crack den until approximately 5pm. Restart the grind 8pm till whenever, sleep in crack den till??? Then go home???

Your plan makes no sense.

Serious advice: Take her offer of a full refund, forget about Palm Springs, and find something better to do with your weekends than grinding small stakes poker. If you need a little extra money, get a real job locally where you don't have to live like a hobo and turn your life into a grind.
