If you think he's an awful rapper, and Tuscan Leather is a bad song, then you have terrible taste. Sorry.

I mean if you listen to songs like The Language, Pound Cake/PMM2, and Tuscan Leather and think they're trash I just feel bad for you.

My favorite songs are Tuscan Leather, Furthest Thing, From Time, Too Much, The Language, Pound Cake/PMM2.

9/10, and AOTY so far.
ehhhh...def doesn't crush hov on that

I love Jay's verses and after more listens I appreciate them more. Still think the name dropping was a little eh, and I'm a little tired of hearing about his Maybach, but word.

Anyone who starts that started from the bottom argument is an actual moron. The bottom doesn't have to refer to a socioeconomic status. He came in to the rap game as a half jewish child actor from Toronto, he released Room For Improvement and had no hype at all. That IS the bottom of the rap industry. There's no arguing that. Some people are just idiots.
a tonne of rappers who actually did start at the bottom could do a track called started from the bottom and it would fit but for drake its just disrespectful to anyone who really did start at the bottom.

and sure he's light skinned half jew from toronto but eminem was a white guy from detroit - it's hardly some great achievement from drake considering he had a show in the "industry" from his acting.

im probs jsut an idiot/moron tho like you say

Did you guys know that Rick Ross doesn't actually sell coke?

But he raps about it all the time!

lets hear it for the new generation of rappers who rap about stuff they've never done, aren't authentic in any way, shape or form but are apparently real rappers.

Like I normally wouldn't even respond but I am bored before I go to bed so I'll go ahead.

Being half black half jew, having a child acting job, were all things that were huge minuses against him. Being white ended up helping Eminem's career out massively. He wouldn't have done nearly the #s he's done if he was black. That's a fact. Eminem is putting out HORRIBLE music right now, but his music base is so strong that he still sells crazy units. Bezerk is a good example, even though that's flopping now and he had to package his disc with the new Call of Duty (lololololl). While Drake's single just passed his and is moving up the hot 100.

Drake made an anthem that caters to everyone. Achieving a goal, often times you start at the bottom and go to the top to achieve that goal. It has nothing to do with economic status. Drake has never tried to act like he's from the hood or anything like that. He's always been introspective, and tells the truth about his life. People who think he was rich growing up are just wrong, and to think he got in to the industry easily are very wrong.

He started from the bottom of the industry, making underground mixtapes before finally getting notice by chance from Wayne. He is now at the absolute top of the game. That's an awesome success story people can look up to. It seems achievable, and that's why Drake's Started from the Bottom is a great anthem. You start off a bench player, and end up being the star of your high school team. You started from the bottom. You don't have to be from the streets/ghetto and get rich to do that.

I grew up pretty poor, way worse off than Drake did. I could be a bitter hater like a lot of people are, but I'd rather just listen to good music. He tells the truth in his music, and that's a lot more than you can say for 90% of rappers out. Anyway I don't want to compare Em and Drake, no idea why you even brought up the two.

That Fallon performance is unbelievable. Straight up raw emotion. You can tell it's not only his first time doing this song live in front of people (national TV!), but the first time his Mother/Uncle will hear it. Really awesome stuff.

Not sure if you're saying this about only Rick Ross and others, but I'm pretty sure you're saying it about Drake too because of the SFTB thing. So yea you're an idiot. Drake is respected by all of the legends of the game because he DOES tell the truth. He raps/sings about what he knows. Call his content too soft or whatever, but it's at least real. Something the mainstream admittedly lacks these days.

You're calling me an idiot and yet you can't figure out why when you mention drake having a hard time getting into rap, i bring up eminem? you even made comparisons - perhaps it's a bad example but i think there similar in terms of barriers they faced getting into rap.

It's not the bottom though, it's more like half way there.

I think Drake never acting like he's from the hood is probably accurate - there have definitely been occasions where he's tried to play the tough guy when he's known so well for being one the, for want of a better word, "softer" artists though.

Jesus, you jump to so many conclusions. I'm not saying it about Drake at all - that's exactly why I do in fact like Drake. I just don't like listening to artists who aren't real/authentic (I think rick ross has made great tracks but there's something "off" about listening to someone whos background is very questionable).

------

I don't get why you'd call me a moron/idiot, just makes you look like a mad fan boy who can't take people criticizing your favorite artists..

Fair point, but as a viewer you know that's just a story (there's no doubt about it) - still a valid point though.

I feel like a lot of people really like Drake because he has one of the most smooth flows/delivery imo. Also I agree the sense of honest real emotion in his music is higher than most artists.

That doesn't sound like someone trying to say they came from the hood, but also with a lil research it is not hard to see that he def did not grow up with a ton of money. Have you seen his parents?
