I also agree that it has been harder to find good hip hop as of late. This song by Rhymefest is sick, although, overall, his album is mediocre.

just in case you missed it, i said i like atmosphere, but you must be blind to see why many don't. some find the lyrics too 'emo' or whatever like people here have said, some just don't think he has a good overall style, its definitely not very standard. Also, the beats in general aren't particularly catchy, or 'bangin' or whatever. Anyway, I think they are great, but ya, not really for everyone. Also, just to make sure, you cited just 2 of their albums as good when you know they have a ton more?

Well, I can see why mainstream heads wouldn't like them, but the way you worded it sounded like there were legit reasons to hate. Calling him Emo is ******ed, so I was thinking there was something deeper. Guess not. I agree about the beats, though.

Yes I know they have much more, I just like those to personally.

The Grouch's first album "**** The Dumb" is by far the greatest collection of sounds ever put together by anything or anybody. Every musician on the planet could spend generations and not come close to this ****. This record practically raised me and lots of other west coast hoodlums back in the day. Whether I was hopping busses around town or just crusin the sidewalks I had my headphones blastin it.

I seriously can't stress just how awesome this record is. I am listening to it right now an d practically got goosebumps. Mainly from the nostalgic relation to my childhood. DL this **** and get high and play it in the dark just lieing down listening to it. You will thank me later.

it's old, but i just wanted to throw it out b/c no one mentioned it. Blackalicious' Nia is one of my favorite albums of all time. Also the Solesides Greatest Bumps double disc compilation and RJD2 deadringer and Pete rock anything. Jazzy Jeff has put out a couple nice laid back albums, in particular The Magnificent stands out in my mind.

you pretty much listed old rawkus in your op. have you tried shabaam sahdeeq or hi tek? if you like them, you should probably just go straight to the rawkus site and see what they have to offer

A quick thanks to all the posters who put recommendations up. There were a fair few artists I'd never heard of. Spent a while downloading stuff yesterday and I have not been disappointed.

Oh, and special thanks to btmagnetw for giving me a good laugh with the jkwon and 50-Cent post. Mr. Walnuts, you were not the only one who got leveled.

I've got pretty similar tastes and I'd highly recommend a new rapper named 'Blu'. He's got an album out on iTunes (not sure it's available in stores) called "Below the Heavens". The album is completely produced by Exile. The chemistry the two have on the album is great, Blu can kinda flow, and I dig Exile's beats. Check out Blu's Myspace page to hear it.
