I'd love to hear who you think is miles ahead of Token in the lyrical department. Not to mention his videos are just amazing from a creative perspective.
okay so just not rapping about drugs or jewelry means it's good?

rappers better lyrically than this guys meaningless keystyle struggle raps are way too many to mention, but for example sada baby since i think it's sad how slept on his new album is

not so much, just stating that he doesn't use the typical crutch that many nowadays do.

honestly who's good and who's not is all just a matter of opinion and I welcome all that like to get in the conversation.

nowadays, the first box to check (for me) is "can you understand them..ie non mumble rap" and then the discussion can go from there.

edit: just listened to that link you provided.. dime a dozen to me. to each their own, but I wouldn't be going down a youtube worm hole for this artist personally. not saying it's 'bad', just not cup of tea anymore.

Checking out Token now. He’s not bad at all!

I couldn’t even make it through track 1 of Sada Baby’s album.

glad you're enjoying it. I've also came across this guy called Prof, a rapper from Minnesota. I wouldn't put him the the 'lyrical' category, but I find him entertaining and on the fun side of rap.

Just listened to Kanye's College dropout all the way through and man what a great CD. So much more heart and humble than the rest of his work. Don't get me wrong, I like his more cocky style and dynamic beats too and think all his CDs have great songs on them, but Never Let You Down, Spaceship, All Falls Down, Get Em High, and Jesus Walks are such great songs and there's a pretty cool theme the whole way through.

Spotify link of my favorite rap songs I made yesterday, mostly 2000 and earlier.

https://open.spotify.com/user/allsky...R6yRWiDDeg5J9w

My favorite rap cds in no particular order

Nas - Illmatic
Jay-Z - Reasonable Doubt
GZA - Liquid Swords
Raekwon - Only Built 4 Cuban Linx
Kanye - Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy
Kanye - College Dropout
Kanye - Late Registration
Watch the Throne
Tupac - Me Against the World
BIG - Ready to Die

Those are more or less the only hip hop cds that I can listen straight through without wanting to skip any/many songs.

Did you forget about Luda, or he didn't make your list? How about outkast?

I went through an alternating Kanye in order, Kendrick in reverse order marathon a few weeks ago and as easy as it is to hate Kanye these days, I just can't write him off. Those first few albums are ****ing stellar.

There’s a few Luda songs on there (I know this for a fact cause I’m listening to it now on shuffle and one is playing at this very moment) but probably not as many as there should be since I like him a lot

Honorable mention fosho. Couple songs on there I could do without though and production and lyrics not nearly as strong as the GZA and Rae debuts

correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't the request more related to 'new' hip hop? Spin2Win basically offered a top 10 list.. which I'd imagine everyone is aware of these albums already.

speaking on Kanye, I also hold College Drop Out as an absolute classic. Went to listen to it again a few months ago and just realized how much I hate Kanye. He made it to where I can't even listen to the album (for me).

The #1 song on Apple music is a country/trap song by Memer/Instagram artist Lil Nas X. It's called "Old Town Road" and it's a certified banger!

Can’t listen to this right now but I’m skeptical of any rap artist that would have the nerve to put “Nas” in his name when there’s already a Nas. It’s like taking the Lord’s name in vain.

There's brilliance in an Instagram memer that trolled his way into a 3 Million dollar deal and the #1 song on Apple & Spotify. That's sick rungood.
