if the next post is always describing the previous song and offers a song from the same genre, how does the thread change genres?

I'll take care of that problem.

5/10. I can respect it, but just don't have much of a palate for this type of music.

Early American music from a group from my hometown of South City St. Louis. Pokey LaFarge and the South City Three.

edit: I should add that I jumped the gun and listened to the last track posted and posted mine. I didn't read the OP so I likely violated it. Although I think that it makes the thread a little redundant (not talking ****, just an observation) Feel free to PM if I am messing with the flow and you would like me to delete OP.

I enjoyed it more than I thought I would. Especially the instrumentals. Good changes of genres. 7/10

To continue the eclectic mix - here's Pink Martini, a Portland (I think) based band with a cover of an Italian classic:

I had someone roll up to my car blasting that kind of stuff only to find out that they would need to blast it louder to get over this:

It was a bit poppy and commercial for me, but was ok.

Adele is massive in the UK at the moment, don't know if she has made it anywhere else yet.

Yes nice track. She has a great voice and I like the stripped back parts to let her hammer it out as well as the uplifting piano shiz.

7/10

How about another awesome female vocalist. With extra bonus filthy guitars.

2/10, I don't really like the song that much to begin with though. The way the one girl sings reminded me of Lou Reed- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6xcwt9mSbYE

Anyway, the spooky intro was very cool and the jazzy breakdown at the end totally delivered. I don't know the right term for it, but that drummer does a fast little sequence at the end of the fadeout that reminds me of background music from 70's crime-drama chase scenes. ****ing awesome.

The stuff in the middle was tougher to digest. Although I liked some of the riffs, I have never developed an appreciation for the nuances of that style of singing.

That said, I listened to that song last night and couldn't stop thinking about it all day. I'm not a big believer in letting music "grow on me". Either it reaches out and grabs me or it doesn't. Candiria, however, might be an exception as I am very intrigued.

Personal taste- 6/10 Musical talent 14/10

That style of singing (if you will) is def an acquired taste. If you are going to check out other stuff by them listen to the first two albums and only listen to the album versions they don't play the jazzy breakdowns live (which was kind of a let down the first few times I saw them). I believe they actually have full tracks that are just jazz and hip-hop but with the band making the music.

This song has lot of jazz breakdowns and not "as much" screaming vocals also some rapping. Very original music.

As for the Distillers song above I'll give it a 9/10, I actually like that song. I'm in the middle on straight up punk but this is a really good song.

One of my favorite punk bands. Before anyone comments on how this is just another ****** pop punk band. They were around for many years before Sum 41, Blink 182....etc and is most likely those bands influences.

Face to Face - "Disconnected" Dr. Strange Records

It' Marvin Gaye. I'm not really into R&B but again it's Marvin Gaye. 7/10 just because he gets the panties off.

This song is sick as hell give me the chills every time I hear it. Unfortunately this band sold out big time after this album.

E-Town Concrete - Firstborn

I still listen to a lot of music from the 90's early 00's.

Diggin' it! The fast, upbeat tempo makes up for the depressing theme. Really like the guitar work.

9/10

My post earlier was so tl;dr that no one reviewed my song.

After being unceremoniously dumped from his Ozzy Osbourne gig, the greatly under-appreciated Jake E. Lee went on to form Badlands. Caught at the beginning of the grunge era, Badlands were slagged off as "hair-metal" when in fact they were really a hard blues-rock band.

Record label drama and infighting doomed them. Gillen died of AIDS and Lee is now a meth-addict living in a Vegas trailer park.

I like songs on the album on their own (ballad of a thing man, queen jane, this one), but as an album, I think its kind of forgettable as just one tick above your dad's bluesrock band that covers stevie ray vaughn too much (too much being ever). That being said, I think this song has a great drunken fistfight in the coral next to the saloon kind of vibe to it. It also has that great indifferent swagger that is one of Dylan's trademarks. The plink plunk of the piano is very pleasing and probably the best aspect of the track for me.....

For a parallel inverse, here is a song from a band that I'm not crazy about but from an album that I like a great deal. Also (quite obviously) an homage to the man himself:

Not bad at all. A bit too melancholic for my taste, but I give it 7/10.
