I’d let it go. Either that, or send my daughter to camp armed, with strict instructions to guard her meds at all times.

The possibility that a kid - like my daughter, for instance, maybe to give to a "cool" cabinmate - could have taken the meds did cross my mind. In talking to the camp, that definitely did not happen. Each days meds are pre-apportioned and each day's pills are in a small envelope that is handed to the kid. They do not have access to more than their current dose.

Spoke to the camp director last night. They did indeed discover the problem when they went to give another kid his meds and they weren't there. THEN they did a count of all controlled substances and found that my daughter's were also gone.

To me, it sounded like the camp director thinks he knows who did it. He said a very small number of people had access, and he's known half of them for 10+ years. He said they have a real HR department (this really is not a small operation) that is involved, so they can't just start pointing fingers. They are all sticking hard to the drug-testing story, in fact claiming that they've all already submitted samples. Maybe that's a bluff to try to get the guilty party to confess? I dunno.

I don't think they're going to offer any sort of refund. I'm picking my daughter up tomorrow and will re-evaluate once she's home.

Lapka,

I know you all develop at a young age in Mother Russia but I was unaware that you all start counting teenagers at eleven.

Now I’m wondering if there are some 12 y/o Russian boys smoking cigarettes and driving and... never mind YouTube instantly confirmed this

^^
You don't really think that children at 11 are innocent angels with wings that you have to/can protect from bad world?

I mean.... I was always a poster child for a " good girl". Always tried to keep the grown-ups pleased and satisfy all the expectations from my parents. In such camp I had slightly privileged position because the medical center boss was a colleague of my mom. I had a second bed there instead of dorms, went with stuff to check if everyone was in bed at the right hour and had few other perks. And there was a division of boys from a sport school in this camp. How do you think, would I steal any pills, if one of this boys would ask? Consider that I totally satisfied the picture of being a little angel with wings.

When I went to "Sleep-away" camp at age 11-12 in '95 there were already kids with weed & alcohol and a handful of girls already .....I'm just gonna stop right there. Having kids seems like such a mental nightmare I'll never be able to handle.

drug testing is a funny waste of camp resources. adderall is out of the system in 2 days for some people.

Lapka would replace the oxy tablets with placebos which she would have carried around for this purpose.

Lapka,

I was just joking with you saying you were 11 and “teenagers”

Naaahhh.... I am not so easy to put into " belligerent ***** " mode. One thing it requires is me taking the opponent seriously. : D

That explains your reaction to MLYLT.

Why does Facebook keep trying to make me watch street fights? I know, lol Facebook, but on the rare occasion I click a video that someone posts, whether it is their kid saying dadda when prompted to say momma, some crazy poker hand, baby goats jumping off of ****, an amazing life hack, politics or whatever it is almost invariably autoplayed with a street fight followup. Wtf? I don’t look for street fights or watch them. How am I being targeted for that? Any of y’all get it too?

If I were at a kids' camp, the last thing I would want would be speed.

Not to say an adult didn't take them for later use, sale, etc.

They're aware of your dozens of posts in the Floyd vs Ronda street fight thread.

Man. Very nostalgic for the days when that was one of the most contentious topics I took part in. Good times.

I don't think it's too outlandish that camp could test 10 people within 24 hours of discovery. Cost of testing compared with potential liability with kids of rich, potentially suit prone, parents.

I wonder if any of the people also have a stimulant prescription and thus would automatically "fail" the test. Or if thief doesn't take the meds within a day. Perfect crime?

Grunching. Just came by to say that this is a very decent LC thread title. That is all.

I'd say damn near zero, unless by "kid" you're talking about one of the young camp employees and not an actual child attending the camp.

Ugh, good times.

Got roped into jury duty this week. Mon-Wed, and this morning. Yesterday we were off.

It was a resentencing in a capital murder case. The trial and sentence was from a decade ago. He was originally sentenced to death and was granted a new hearing.

I really wanted no part in it. And thought for sure I would be excused after I answered their questions. I stated that I was fundamentally opposed to the death penalty. Unfortunately, I answered honestly when asked if shown a given set of circumstances whether I could return a death sentence. And that answer is yes. I am opposed to the death penalty but also realize there are certain people who deserve it but it would be a high bar to reach.

I really did not want to be there. Call me a wimp or whatever, I just don't want to take part in those decisions. And I was right. I was a miserable three days. Heart wrenching actually. Hopefully it will never happen to me again. I think I will lie next time.

Long story short, the details of the crime are unimportant, 8-4 in favor of death. Which in this state means an automatic life sentence. It must be unanimous.

Yeah, I was one of the 4.

I will drink it out of existence tonight.

I got out of jury duty by answering (truthfully) that I had a close family member (grandfather) murdered, as it was a murder trial. Didn’t want to do it anyway so that was good. Would really hate to be on any sort of death penalty case but I don’t even know if my state has that.
