For many years I used to go to the annual Sunday Times Books party in the library at the Reform Club. (Doesn't Fogg have to time his arrival after the Eighty Days by the clock on the mantelpiece in the library? I was standing there once and found myself getting into a conversation with David Gilmour of Pink Floyd fame. No, I don't know what he was doing there either.)

There are some nice shots inside the club (mainly the great balcony around the atrium) in The Quiller Memorandum (1966). While George Segal is getting into trouble in Berlin, two top-hole Foreign Office types played by George Sanders and Robert Flemyng meet up at the Reform and discuss what a pity it would be if our chap got killed, still, can't be helped. The script's by Harold Pinter, so it's got a certain cryptic style to it. The summer location shooting in Sixties Berlin is pretty good also.

Haven't played whist in a while, but it is a nice game, and of course you feel like Fogg when you're playing it.

Stupide Voutures is good if your friends are smart / gamblers and you can play it with normal decks of cards. Crokinole obv but then we're getting into stuff like darts and horseshoes and polo and ****.

Terrible game: Cards Against Humanity.
Terribler game: Risk.
Terriblerest game: Axis and Allies aka "Autistic kid setting up a board for 45 minutes while everyone stares."
Secret Hitler, The Resistance, Apples to Apples, and Fluxx are also fun party games.

Dominion is a bit heavy for a party game. I love the game and it never gets old to me. Nothing better than forcing your opponents to draw curse after curse until the pile is empty and there's no way to trash them.

CAH gets old pretty fast. Not the kind of game you can play repeatedly with the same group because you eventually find out that nobody but you has a decent sense of humor.

I've never had an issue with Amazon where I ended up unhappy with the final resolution. They've always come through for me, even if their recent ****ty shipping practices have been annoying.
Just use the customer service chat and explain what happened.

I have a different book that I bought and decided to sell back, because it is lacking in value, to Chegg, I dropped it off at the same UPS store 9 days ago and I am now receiving an email that haven't received it. ~$80 buyback. This is completely unrelated to Amazon. UPS Store guy is ripping me off, imo. Coinflip between getting pissed off and just letting the guy making $8/hr get some extra meth money.

Without a drop-off receipt (yes that's a thing at UPS Stores), they'll likely say you never dropped those books off there and the tracking will basically indicate that. Lesson learned.

Ups guy printed me drop-off receipts both times.

edit: After further thought I think Amazon/Chegg are just dragging ass. It would be difficult for UPS guy to not send/steal.

Will this make you reconsider your glaring contempt for the human race?

I'm a brand new man! I have shifted my contempt towards cats and sea creatures.

I don't think too many times did i play Mouse Trap the way it was meant to be played. I just loved the contraption!

I was such a dirty, depraved little Monopoly fiend as a young boy. I was a very hyperactive ADHD child (pretty much a full 180 to my current state), but I would sit and watch simulations of the Monopoly NES game. I wouldn't even play it half the time! Once I had my brother rig up the VCR to record an 8 CPU player game overnight before we returned it to the video store. I watched it multiple times. I had the price, rent, and cost per x number of houses or hotel for each property memorized when I was 6.

Im quite sure I haven't played this decade. Sad.

I'm sure there is a free app out there. Multiplayer game for a small wager?
08-22-2018 , 04:21 PM
Lol, that sounds amusing.
08-22-2018 , 04:30 PM
txdome - keep that wager small, dude went pro at the age of six. The smart money is not on you here.

I thought I read an article that said Monopoly is solved?

By BigHurt, at age 6. Keep up. I don't think anyone involved would cheat.

International flight, lots of screaming children in the boarding area.

Gate agent: (scans boarding pass, SEAT CONFLICT pops up)
Gate agent: I'm sorry sir there is a seating conflict, I need to change your seat.
Me: (quells inner dread)
Me: Sure, no problem.
Gate agent: Here is your new boarding pass. Sorry for the change.
Me: (looks at new pass, sees seat now upgraded to business class)
Me: No problem!

How I run so good in life, I will never know.

Mouse Trap, and Perfection, have been ruined.

The retail versions nowadays are simplified monstrosities of the original game.

LOL at 9 piece perfection, original had 25

Mouse Trap was all about the bathtub and the net clickety-clacking down the pole.

The previews and commercials for The Happytime Murders had me interested.

Unfortunately, it's getting killed by reviewers. (about 30% on RT with more reviews coming in)

https://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/the..._murders_2017/

By comparison:
South Park: Bigger, Longer, Uncut is at 81%.
Beavis and Butthead Do America is at 72%.
Team America: World Police is at 77%.

I was hoping for that level of quality.

I'm always surprised to see that RT seems to be the clear popular choice for movie ratings. I trust IMDb way more.
08-23-2018 , 01:46 PM
It's starring Melissa McCarthy and Maya Rudolph, I don't know why you'd expect more. Joel Mchale and Elizabeth Banks are mediocre comedians, at best. It was produced and directed by Jim Henson's son. Yikes!

Did some fishing in Hope Valley near Markleeville over the weekend

Not much water flowing through the West Fork of Carson River this time of year, but it was nice being up in the mountains

Even caught a couple fish!

One night I was startled by a bunch of coyotes that started screaming just yards from our campsite. Not sure if they were playing, fighting, or hunting, but I had no idea coyotes would pack up like this. I've encountered wild coyotes a bunch of times and they were always by themselves. This time it sounded like there were a LOT of them.
(Have to turn the audio all the way up to hear it. For some reason the volume became really low once I uploaded the vid.)

Have you, or anyone your opinion values, ever voted on those sites?

I've always liked Banks.

What is your opinion on Rose Byrne?
