LOL what a noob.

It's not like I linked Yngvie Malmsteen or Paul Gilbert.
If you see those songs as just shredding, you are not very musically oriented.

they're not just shredding, but the shredding is unfortunately the most interesting part of them. compositionally this is just elevator music for guitar nerds. but hey whatever gets your rocks off.

Re: Radiohead: The best band of our time.

Halowax and other RH fans,

I believe I have all RH albums on my iPhone. I have listened to a few multiple times, and so far I think I enjoy Bends the most. But people love love love RH, and I feel like I am missing out on something. Which album do you recommend really starting with, as far as listening "actively" compared to casually? I want to enjoy these MFers, but I don't see the same greatness that many others do.

FWIW my favorite band is Modest Mouse, and I listen to their albums repeatedly. On Pandora radio I usually listen to Muse radio, but don't often look at what pops up...

I'm also a huge MM fan... Love Spitting Venom and parting of the sensory.
I'd recommend listening to Amnesiac and Kid A to get a feel for the newer stuff-then pop into In Rainbows, The Reckoner and Videotape are pretty epic Tom tracks.

big MM fan here too.

i think the two essential RH albums are OK Computer and Kid A. if you really give those a shot and they don't stand out to you, then RH are probably not for you.

RH are one of those bands whose albums i usually listen to in the background a few times before they really start to grab me. everyone gets into music differently, but usually when listening to a new record i put it on in the background or while doing something else and give myself a chance to let it sink in, then actually pay attention to it later on. i feel like i am probably in a fairly bizarre minority on that one.

the fact that people say that about the Beatles illustrates that being the best and the most overrated will always, always, always be one and the same no matter how justified

The stupidity of this quote killed this thread so I will revive it by linking music that is far superior to anything Radiohead has ever written besides Creep.

Re: Radiohead: The best band of our time.

i just discovered radiohead a few months ago and i think they are one of my favorite bands now. one thing i dont understand is how most radiohead fans really love kid a so much. besides a few brilliant tracks, there's a whole lot of skippable material on the album and i think it doesn't flow as well as their other albums. i also think a lot of people underrate hail to the thief. id put ok comp, bends, thief and in rainbows is awesome, kid a and amnesiac as good and pablo honey as a mulligan.

Go see them live. I wasn't a fan of Kid A either but when I saw them for the first time my fav songs were the ones from that album. Idioteque and National Anthem are insane live.

I actually really agree with this. I LOVE Hail To The Thief, and think it's their 2nd best behind OK Computer. I understand Kid A's importance and brilliance, but agree that as an album it's nowhere near as listenable as HTTF, which is also much more cohesive and concept-driven than Kid A, imo.

Knives, I have seen them live twice, and agree that live Kid A stuff is awesome, but that's not really what we're talking about.

I'd actually put Amnesiac over Hail to thief, but it's definitely close. But yeah, definitely my favorite band and in agreement with the OP. I can't believe I've never seen them live, but hopefully I get the chance to soon.

Oh, and for anyone who hasn't checked out "Jaydiohead", I highly recommend.

Why do people like these songs? Too slow, melodies suck, sound like they were written by someone on a third world quality trip, and sung by a narcoleptic ghost. U2 is way better for this general genre but best band of our time is the Cranberries.

I'm a huge Radiohead fan and when I first started listening to them I couldn't get into those 2 albums. OK Computer is now definitively my favorite RH album and Kid A probably edges out The Bends for #2, but for someone just starting to listen to them I think The Bends is by far the best album to start with. If that doesn't do it for you then you probably won't like Radiohead.

I've tried multiple times listening to them. I've tried to get into the simplicity of enjoying them. This thread continued to try to convince me that I was somehow wrong on how great Thom Yorke's mumble-whining over whatever riffs could really be. I was legitimately giving them a shot...over and over in fact.

But their music is entirely unenjoyable and lousy to me. It's hours of trying that I wish I could have back. I'm finished for now trying to throw it at the wall until it sticks.

My favorite listening moments involving RH the past few weeks involved finally reaching the end of their albums when I changed to something else. Listening to them makes everything else sound better and it has nothing to do with their influence stuff but rather how much I just want to hear anything else.

If I told you of some band that I insisted was truly awesome that you should keep trying to listen until you somehow liked them, would you? I mean, lets say you can't stand Garth Brooks or something...and I said, "well, you have to keep throwing it at the wall until it sticks." Would you go about listening to all his different albums multiple times?
Microbob, which album did you try?

When I was in college 10 years ago, I only knew RadioHead through 2 songs Karma Police and Creep, standard pop songs from their early albums that sometimes play on the radio. I liked the song and thought I'd give their new album at the time a try. It was Kid A. I listened to it. Once. Thought it was just noise, garbled noise! Didn't care for it at all and put the CD away to never listen to it again in college.

4 years later in grad school, after having expanded my musical tastes, i now actually have been to many concerts and truly listened to 100s more amazing bands. I feel that I now have a more mature taste for music. I remember when I was 13 and listening to Bryan Adams - Everything I do, I do it for you and loving it lol. Now, that's how i felt about my taste of music when i was in college.

I thought I give Kid A another shot. HOT ****ING DAMN!

I was taken to another world by a jasmine perfumed cloud to a feast of hot roasted garlic pepper crab, and then massaged by 19 (YES 19) beautiful full bosomed virgins, and then Jessica Alba came into the room with Scarlett Johansson, and they proceeded to give me blowjobs with their bright big puppy eyes looking up at me.

Radiohead.

Radiohead maybe not be the best but goddamnit it's better than listening to Mike Tyson.

(LOL maybe not)

Re: Radiohead: The best band of our time.

Music is so subjective.

I'm actually shocked at myself for not having listened to this band much, especially since I'm 41 and grew up on 80's alternative music and also love Pink Floyd. wierd..... I have In Rainbows but have yet to hear any other album by them. yay - I have a whole bunch of albums to discover....

BTW -The Verve and Echo and the Bunnymen are the greatest bands ever. (see, I told you music is subjective......)

Sorry if this has been posted before. I'm not going to read all the way through this thread to find out.

I found this on another site and thought people who like Radiohead would like this 24 song free download.
