This is what it feels like for a thread to be saved by the bell.

You know what, you're probably right. Dunno why I ever post in music opinion threads, so stupid to argue with people about what they like. Tool is fine, everything is fine except Phish

the only problem with this is that it is sampling ooters, who probably contain a lot of the band's target demographic

I think this is a bit of **** comment just listening to their last record, which was no where near their best, the range of tracks, was very innovative imo. I concede maybe not to the same extent to some of their earlier stuff like Blood Sugar and One Hot Minute but still i think credit should be given where it is due. Just contrast 'Wet Sand', 'Storm in a Teacup', 'Hump de Bump' and 'Hey' imo that constitutes shying away from the 'generic rock forumla' for me.

NB: I don't think RCHP are neccessarily best band of our time, but should indeed be considered.

I hate it when people try to say that any sort of artist is better or best. Yes, they happen to be one of my favorite bands, but that merely means that I prefer them to say Madonna or whomever. Everything is subjective in art. Even if you try to say they sold the most records, or are most liked, or have put out the most music that is consistantly listened to over the longest time period....this thinking is still flawed as if this were the litmus, McDonalds would be the "best" food.

RHCP in the 80's were an unbelievable band. you listen to mother's milk and they just sound so huge and tight. flea is such a beast on those records, i appreciate that he has tried to play more melodic and "tasteful" bass lines to varying degrees since but the early stuff sounds ****in fierce. although they're never going to be a totally bland pop band like creed or something i think everything after BSSM has been downhill. people who don't really listen to pre-BSSM RHCP (probably the majority of listeners now tbh) don't seem to feel that way, kind of like how metallica fans now will tell you with a straight face that "load" is their best album. but to me, after BSSM the peppers progressively became more and more of a mainstream rock band, a good one but not one that pushes boundaries like on their old stuff.

To be fair, if this thread was made for say 10 different popular bands "of our time", the total "yes" % would far surpass 100%.

Defends how you define "far surpass".

Regardless, no band would come close to the 35% positive vote that radiohead has.

I'm guessing if every member of 2p2 voted Radiohead would be far less than 35%.

Damn I did it again.

I think Tool comes the closest to knocking Radiohead off the top, though it's very close, with Guns and Roses up there as well. Very distantly from these three, I would put the White Stripes and Alice in Chains.

Besides these, I don't know who else would be up there. Nirvana is very popular and influential, but there is little variety in their songs and I don't think the quality is really as high as other bands from the era. Metallica and Green Day have put out way too much horrible stuff to be up there, regardless of how popular they remain. Bands like the Mars Volta have not put out nearly enough material to be able to be considered "great", imo.

A large portion of OOT probably avoided this thread not being RH fans and decided not to be in the minority, when it's clear a large proportion of posters ITT are RH fans.

TMV have put out 5 records in a span of 6 years.

Tool have put out 4 records in a span of 20 years.

And none of those 9 are the works of the greatest band of our time or even anywhere remotely close.

Lateralus and Aenema are two of the greatest albums of our time absolutely. Deloused in the Comatorium is one of the best albums of the 'noughties'. So at least 3 would be in the discussion.

Although Radiohead is a great band, the best thing they've done was the South Park episode, top 5 episode all time. The best band of our time has to be the Madsen/Flack rap duo, I think that's something we can all agree on.

wat

I like Tool as much as the next guy, and I even own their four albums (didn't realize they only had 4 until I looked it up, amazing) and Opiate, but come on.
