Wow, can't believe you think this about Kid A. Lots of people don't like that album for lots of reasons, but "bland" is seldom one of them.

Radiohead is a non-stop barrage of bland.

I don't care about any generational bias. Lots of fine music today. Radiohead is not among them.

Either most people are misreading the OP and thinking it says "all time" instead of "our time," or most people are dumb. To say Radiohead "isn't even close" to the best band of the past 20 years is ******ed.

Yeah. I'm not sure that Radiohead is the best (but then again I'm not sure who else I'd pick) but they're pretty clearly up there in terms of influence and quality.

Better poll would be -

Radiohead: Most overrated band of ALL-time.

This one's close but I think it's a yes.

They might not be your cup of tea, I would even accept depressing because a lot of their stuff has a certain tone to it that I could see people not liking, but I think calling them bland or boring is pretty lol. If they're bland and boring, then we might as well not even have music.

But a lot of this is probably people just trolling Radiohead fans, because they're pretty tiltable.

i think they're the most important rock band of the last 20 years. i could see making a case for nirvana based on their impact but i would disagree because they were so short-lived.

they're not my 'favorite' band but i think if you go by the criteria of who best combined success, innovation, enduring influence, evolving over their career etc it's them in a landslide.

If even 1/5 people vote yes on the poll that would be more than enough for Radiohead to "win" this poll imo. What other band could more than 20% of people think is the best of our time?

Probably U2, but that's what you get when you poll the public...

here are some of the bands that people might mention in this category, based on longevity, influence, greatness, etc... just to fuel the discussion a little

nirvana
tool
metallica
pearl jam
U2
green day
smashing pumpkins
RHCP
modest mouse
sonic youth

i like several of these bands and hate several others... some really did their best work in the 80's but were good or ok since (metallica, U2). i don't think any stack up to radiohead in terms of consistent, sustained quality, innovation, longevity, etc.

I think their supposed influence/innovation is way overrated.

And I don't mind the depresso/emo nature of their music. I get into a lot of that genre (or sort of that genre I guess) just fine. And I really don't care about the fans, etc either. If the band was awesome then I would just say "band is awesome. Hate most of the fans."

I've often wondered if it's just the singer's voice that bugs the crap out of me and if I would like them better (or drool for them like so many others) if it was just a different voice in there. I'm generally okay with higher male voices even but that guy's voice is just awful to me. But I'm pretty sure I don't like the music itself either.

Yeah I was just thinking about this and came up with pretty much the same bands. I'd exclude Modest Mouse and Sonic Youth though. I don't think they had enough recognition. My favorite of this era is Pearl Jam but I'm not really qualified to call them the best.

Some decent nominations in there.

While U2 obviously faded big-time from their peak (probably Joshua Tree) I think they are still worthy of consideration. Sonic Youth I go back and forth on. But Daydream Nation is amazing.

I'm torn on whether Modest Mouse actually belongs in there.

Back in the mid to late 80's I think R.E.M. would have almost made this list (maybe a second tier?) but they've been so full of suck for so long that I think we can just banish them way far away.

reasonable suggestions, but I think if you run this same poll with any of these bands instead, none of them gets close to the % of Yes voters that Radiohead get.

obviously this doesn't mean Radiohead is the greatest, just that they do best in the poll.

I agree, but I think that's just due to them having the most fanboys on the Internet. If you ran that poll among the entire general pop. than Nirvana or U2 probably take it.
