I was off soda/doing keto for a while sometime pre-'demic, and decided to hit Ft. McDowell casino to get a little gamble on. Drink lady had a tray of sodas, I asked for a diet. Hadn't had one in 20ish years? Holy sheee-ite, it ****ed me up something good. Literally buzzed, staggering a little, hard to think, etc. Felt like that for a couple of hours off a 10-12 oz bev. Never again, I promised myself.

Hook a brother up?

I keed. Closest I've done was a snow-cap, which I didn't enjoy. Thought my heart was going to esplode.

I got a table share of a bad beat jackpot there. At the time it was the highest ever in the state. $250k or so. Spent many many hours chasing it. So close.

I used to grind their Saturday no-limit (Deep stack?) tournament a couple times a month. Too bad about their poker room closing, and not impressed with the remodel. I wouldn't bother going back, now.

I'll definitely just continue drinking diet soda as the mood strikes and accept an earlier death if that's what it's lining me up for.

Diet soda not bad for you unless you're guzzling it all day long

for five or six years i was brown-bagging lunch and always had a can of diet dr. pepper 'cause routine
quit many years ago and don't care for soda much now, except for sugar free 7up.
no sugar, no caffeine, just refreshing lemon-lime fizzy water

I’m all about the occasional 33.8 oz Vintage Lemon Lime Seltzer.

Try it out!

I don't have many peer-reviewed double-blind studies to back this up, but I'm pretty sure that aspartame is straight-up poison for the nerves in my particular human body. Anecdotal, the skeptics might say. Fair enough, but I'm off it forever. Or to be more rigorous, just til the day I die.

I drink water and black coffee and that's about it.

If my wife eats or drinks anything 'sugar free' but still sweet (even gum or mints), she ends up puking for days. And I've already described what Diet Coke (poison!) does to me. That **** ain't got no place in my pantry, for sure.

Limiting my soda intake has been tough for me. I basically lived on the stuff in my 20's and 30's, finally started rationing some in my 40s and am now living with the consequences in my 50's.

When someone says the word “culmination,” I reflexively repeat it back in the voice of the assistant lacrosse coach in American Pie.

As a young man who came of age in the late 80s, how disappointed am I going to be with the Top Gun sequel? It looks really good.

Top Gun actually got me into the office of the Naval recruiter. Even with an asvab score of 97, he told me the chances of being a fighter pilot were near zero. So I went to college instead. He was probably never that honest again.

probably not as disappointed as you will be when you see what Kelly McGillis looks like today
Spoiler:
(she's not in the movie)

Damn it red eyes. Why’d you make me look her up? I’m sure she is a very nice person.

The buzz on that movie seems pretty good. Considering that you should always expect nothing of a sequel that comes out more than, say, four years after the previous installment, disappointment shouldn't really be in play.

She's 64 and barely acts anymore. We're just taking a run at random older women for no longer looking 24 and hot?
05-13-2022 , 10:38 PM
Is she the female romantic lead in the sequel?
05-13-2022 , 10:50 PM
Nah, she's not in it.
05-13-2022 , 11:04 PM
Not sure anyone is taking a run at her.
05-13-2022 , 11:11 PM
They're running alright, just not towards her
