Are both of these sentences OK without any punctuation? Why does one read better (does it?)?
First of all, they're not sentences because there's no predicate. They're phrases.

Secondly, they both need commas because you have three adjectives modifying "hair." It doesn't matter which order the modifiers are in, but some people are nittier than others about it.

I think the best way to write it is: "Short, blonde, curly hair."

Then again, if "short" is modifying the person and the other two the hair, then you can say "a short blonde with curly hair" or "a short woman with blonde, curly hair." But I think you meant the hair was short, not the person. In which case it's "short, blonde, curly hair."

So grams was an Engish teacher and I learned to say, "Thank you, yes, I'll have another beer" but it feels wrong when I say, "Thanks, but I'm done, no more beer for me".

Is "Thank you, no" acceptable or pretentious? As compared to "No, thank you".

i mean, usage-wise there seems to be nothing wrong with it, but it does sound like something you'd say in a tea room to a governess.

FWIW, an ex gf who grew up in Canada sang the alphabet song exactly the same until Zed. It's maybe the only good thing to come out of Canada.

I remember in the early '90s when I used to enjoy lounging in my Lay-Zed-Boy recliner, rocking my Zed Cavariccis and watchin' the hockey on the TV there, oh jeez dontchaknow?

grunch, but will definitely read this entire thread.

in the meantime, i would like to relate an issue i have with two of my friends that i hope meets the intent of this thread. one is from college, and one is from work, so they do not know each other, and have never even met. however, both of them not only say, but also write "mine as well" in place of "might as well". it drives me ****ing crazy.

also, while it's not a grammar issue, it still annoys me, so i would like to state here how much i despise the overuse of the phrase "at the end of the day..."

It would be funny to hear people start saying "at the end of the week" or "night" or "month" or "year" or "millennium" instead of "at the end of the day". Especially if they mixed it up.

Mixing things up or being more literal in response to annoying phrases is always fun. That's what I do when someone says "Thank you" or "I'm sorry" not for their normal purpose but to express indignation.

"He sucked out on me there but I'm still #1 on the Ironman leaderboard, thank you very much." "You're welcome!"

"Okay, I'll pay the extra dollar, but I'm sorry, I think stores should honor coupons if the expiration date has just past couple days ago." "Hey, it's okay. I forgive you."

I hate that one too. And along the same lines:

"Back in the day"

"That being said,..."

However, these are just annoying phrases to me and not really ungrammatical.

Coworker of mine hates the following:

At the end of the day
Give 110%
It is what it is.

A couple of us use these phrases just to annoy her. We make sure to use them when they would be used by the annoying fools who constantly use them.

The overused business phrase I originally despised was "touch base", but that one has mercifully subsided.

P.S. As you can see, I am another person who throws the rulebook aside and punctuates logically when writing with quotation marks.
