On the subway drives me crazy. I also love it when the person on the phone screaming into it gets pissed when she loses a connection. You are in a giant metal box under ground moving at 60 mph!

I wish my subway moved at 60mph.

Facetime has definitely kicked the problem up to a new level. It's infuriating. I've seen it in libraries, doctor waiting rooms... zero consideration for people around them. Person on the other end at full volume.

Ubiquitous technology plus an overall loss of civility. It will for sure get worse.

Agreed. I've been in already noisy poker rooms lately and wtf there's often more than one person doing this. How can anybody be so unaware of how annoying they are to others?

Naturally, the moment I return to what had been my regular Starbucks now that they have their cafe open again, some dude sits down next to me and watches a full length long video on his phone with the volume at full blast, completely indifferent to the people around him.

I actually did once, around the time of the original post. It became apparent within a few seconds as the guy apologized that he had some kind of mental disorder, and I immediately felt bad.

The person today is someone I used to see here every day, so I figured I'd avoid the risk of awkwardness or tension in perpetuity if an argument ensued.
