Totally awesome, made my week!
Which is awesome since I was going to do some bottom feeding on Friday and did not get my orders booked fast enough so I'm really depressed that the market is rallying....

So.. what's the follow up?
Round #2 ?

Run 20 yards with plate on head, women have better balance right?
LOL....

Irieguy is a like a sleeper agent of degen gambling, slowly infiltrating the unsuspecting with assorted prop bets.

Nice thread, and surprising outcome.

Most young chicks are able to run away from the 38 year old dudes I know.

5* thread.

We had a pretty interesting discussion on the soccer discussion thread about a similar male vs female argument. At what level would a male team be the favourites against female world champions in soccer in a standard 11 a side game? I think the consensus was it would be something like a regional 14 year old team or so. In basketball or something it might even be worse.

You may have heard of the battle of the sexes when Bobby Riggs (55+) was crushed by Billie Jean King in tennis. What most folks don't recall is Bobby defeated Margaret Court, 30 years old and the #1 ranked female player in the world just a few months prior to playing Billie Jean King. It was only the defeat of Margaret Court that forced Billie Jean to play Bobby as she knew damn well it was "possible" to lose and there was nothing to be gained by beating an old man and had previously turned him down.

this.

those women in the olympics are basically men.

also, i think people are overestimating this dude's ability to beat the chicks in a distance race *if* they do any kind of distance running.

go run a mile sometime (alobar run a mile wednesdays) and report back. it's harder than you think.

i would guess that if these girls run regularly, the breakeven point would be somewhere around 1.5 miles.

I mean, a good high school men's team could probably trounce a world class women's basketball team, but 14 year olds might be stretching it.

yeah 14yr olds is a bit much, but a ton of HS teams would dominate, remember how sick Lebron/Howard/etc were in high school, no woman bball player is even remotely near that level

Id put my money on an all star mens 14 year old team vs any WNBA team

hell I lived in a small ass town and we had a couple dudes that could dunk in the 9th grade....take it on a national scale and those girls would get slaughtered

Yea, my HS team had Deron Williams (Jazz ldo), Bracey Wright (T-Wolves briefly, now in Europe--actually the best on the HS team), 3 others that played D1 college b-ball and 1 that played CB at Texas Tech. That team would have beat the **** out of any WNBA team--and I would have bet on them when they were freshman.

I disagree. I think 14 years old is a very good estimate. Its around the time when puberty has set in for the majority of males.

Oh and probably trounce? It would be all out annhilation vs the WNBA champs.

Battle of the sexes in tennis was silly since it was some old retired guy. How many men do you think would be able to beat Serena Williams in tennis? Wasn't there a discussion on that in one of the PA vs Gus type threads? Estimates were in the thousands.

This bet was a bit rigged, I guess, considering I have a degree in sports medicine. We spent a good week in kinesiology discussing this subject. Girls are shorter, have smaller lower extremity muscle mass, and their wider hips create an angle at the knee joint (the Q angle) which makes any activity that involves lower extremity power very rigged against them. Most people think "oh the world-record women's sprinter is 85% as fast as a dude, so chicks in good shape are kind of fast." This has everything to do with the freakishness of world-class female athletes (tall, massive muscle mass, narrow hips with no Q angle) and little to do with the gap in lower extremity power between women and men.

It's very difficult to be able to carry a full term human gestation in your pelvis, deliver the infant between the bones of your pelvis, AND be able to sprint and jump well. This thread illustrates how successful the women's rights movement has been in conditioning people to ignore the fact that women are physically capable of having children... at the expense of other less important feats of strength.

Ok, I'm sure you've answered this before, but what is it you do for a living? So far I know you have been in the army, have a degree in sports medicine and throw awesome parties.

Since Irieguy Is off on a bareboat charter sail around the British Virgin Islands, I will answer in his stead: He is an OB/GYN in private pratice in Las Vegas...His practice has been open for 4 years & it is a good bet that he delivers more babies than any other OB/GYN in that community. He served in the military (4 years) as an Air Force Doctor attached to an Army Base. He began playing poker seriously while he was in college and became heavily involved w/online poker & 2+2 in mid-2004....His degree in Sports Medicine (Pepperdine '92) was the path to Med School.....His rep for parties is based largely on the 5 or 6 major 2+2 related affairs he has organized over the last 4 years...STTF-HUC-I(09/05)...STTF-HUC-II(02/06)....Ultimate Sit-N-Go Party (12/06)....Bowl-a-Rama (04/07)....SuperBowl + $1,000buyin SnG (02/08).
Among the many very serious & well-received strategy posts that Irieguy has posted on 2+2 he is prolly best known for his exchange w/ Gigabet in a thread titled "Almost There w/ Success & Failure"....He was one of the contributors to Indiana's "Gift" ( a classic thread on STTF forum)

I would say under a mile. I think a girl in shape should be able to run a 8:00 mile, and I doubt a guy who is out of shape can.

I thought the guy was a heavy favorite but not lock to win. On the bell curve of sprinting ability, the bottom tail of guys intersects very minimally with the top tail of girls. So if all relevant parties are anywhere near average, the guy will dominate.

One thing I've noticed is if you ever see a woman playing catch and it is not horrible, she almost always played softball (the converse is not true).

I played tennis through HS, followed it, etc ... I'm pretty sure the top ~fifty ranked 16 year old guys in the nation could all beat Serena. Prob like the top ~250 ranked 18 year olds too. (Only talking about USA) Then pretty much all successful D1 singles players. And any male pro.

and ya.. an all star 14 yr old boys team would beat wnba champs lol. 16 yr old all star team and it gets embarrassing.
