So when you are doing these abstract paintings, is there any kind of "real world" image in your head at all? In Escape I and II, it kind of looks like a harbor or ocean, with a horizon line, and sky on top of it, for example. Others, the resemblance to real world shapes isn't as clear. And yes, I understand these are all abstract, but I think people are always looking to recognize discernable shapes and objects.

no, i kinda just paint and see where it takes me. i know what you mean about escape 1 & 2 though - a few people have said the same thing about it looking like a harbor. with escape i originally painted it vertically with the dark on the left side not the bottom. it wasn't until i turned it sideways, a couple days after painting it, that i was like "woah." and saw the horizon in it too. and it gave it a whole new feeling w/ atmosphere. it made the painting a lot less boring when it was turned and became one of my favorites! so when i did escape2 i did have that in mind, but not the first one.

with "modern world" toward the end of painting i started to see a city skyline in that one too so i made a couple darker marks that brought that out a ltitle more but i didn't do much to really make it look like that, just kinda happened.

with "forgotten dream" i was kind of thinking foresty scene in my head and i think that came through a little without really making it too much.

but for the most part i just paint without really trying to make anything specific. i like to listen to music while i paint and i think that can kinda effect the mood of the painting.

curious about process behind nameing your work though. do you go with what you see, or what you want the viewer to see?
