The picture is from construction of the Rockerfellar building. I saw it in the lobby there... awesome photo.

This landmark image proves that photoshop was invented years before we'd originally thought.

that pic of the guys on the beam is not the construction of the WTC, it's the GE building

Here

One of the most disturbing of all the Holocaust pictures - certainly in giving some sense of the terrifying scale of it.

It's "Lunchtime atop a skyscraper" taken in 1932 on what is now the GE building at Rockefeller center. I think it is pretty easy to tell from the clothes the guys are wearing that this wasn't taken half a century before 9/11.

The WTC was built from 1968 to 1970. So not really half a century earlier either.

Still a great picutre. My former roommate who is a civil engineer has this in her living room. It looks great in a big format,

Sorry if this sound to aggressive, you are doing a great job in this thread.

I just discovered this picture of the guys sleeping up there:

Not as famous, but even more impressive.

On the topic of the German family in the "What the world eats" gallery and someone's concern for their health. Half that beer is non-alcoholic, but I guess the wine isn't...

I am pretty sure its a trick shot and there is stuff below them, albeit not that close but at a distance that they would only get hurt a little

Ya I didnt think of that. Im pretty sure Ive seen nets around buildings in manhattan or in pictures when they are worked on to catch random dropped tools/stuff. Makes sense they'd have something like that for humans working 50 floors up.

wow I think I'd only vaguely heard of hte Jonestown suicides but never seen the picture. That is nuts.

Chernobyl is fascinating. THere was a Youtube documentary a few years ago from guys who went in and took cameras around the city. One of the eeriest places imaginable. Radiation levels were still like 50 times higher than they were supposed to be. Much of it was trapped under the pavement, and supposedly some trees glow in faint red. There are still some old people who live nearby, and there are quite a bit of animals roaming around, some of them morphed into weird-looking things. The coolest image I saw of Chernobyl was a picture of the lunch menu posted above the door to the cafeteria dated the day that the plant exploded or whatever. Even more strange, one of the options was "Radiation Burger".
