always a bit sketchy to anesthetize a dog that old for that long, but we were given a <1% chance things might go haywire, so we gave it a go
come on Red we need an update. Monty has begun his fasting for surgery tomorrow (he just doesn't know it). Fingers crossed. I have no doubt the surgery will be a success.....I just know he's in for hell for the near future.

Monty is home. At first the hardwood floors weren't helping. He'd go down and try to get up but no energy = no grip and just flailing like an upside down turtle. That was tough to watch.

But god damn he is bouncing back quickly.

Good to hear about the bounce back!

I mentioned earlier that Oliver had what sounds like similar surgery a couple of months ago but had to stay at the vet for about a week afterward due to us not being able to keep him inside and inactive. Probably lucky for us as we didn't have to watch him struggle during his recovery. He still has a big spot on his shoulder that was bald when we picked him up but is starting to fill in. We're hoping that his hair will have grown back completely before the weather cools off.

thanks for asking guys...much

he's doing pretty durn good all things considered. based on a quick call from the Dr once he was under we thought the tooth fairy would claim three teeth, but she only took the one. his recovery has been a lot better than last time he was under, but as you might guess he isn't eating as much as he should.

edit: forgot this

Spoiler:

Oh man, it's so sad when they're coming off the anesthesia. I had some of my dog's teeth pulled and promised her no more dentists, lol.

Thanks for the update Red and nate. It's always rough when pets don't eat, but this is for obvious reasons and it sounds like it went well.

OMG you aren't kidding. Monty flailing about was probably the saddest thing I've ever seen.

But whatever, when I dropped him off yesterday the vet said 80% chance he'd be going home same day. I very much prefer the awfulness last evening AT HOME than the thought of him spending the night away under whatever insane amount of stress that would have brought.

Oh yeah, I'd definitely rather have them at home than in a cage all night away.

Is that a tape measure on the stones so you can see if he can jump farther than Josh?

yes, I'm training him to compete in the combine next year. He's not very fast, but he's a bulldozer. A natural run-grading guard.

He looks to have a good motor and a very low center of gravity. Should have an extremely long career. Great prospect imo!
