surgery is scheduled for 6/17. vet said that as far as surgeries go, remove one large and one small mass, it's as basic as it gets. drop Monty off in morning and pick him up in afternoon.
we'll see.
That surgery sounds almost exactly what they did to our cat a couple of months ago. However, since he's basically an outside cat and has never done well inside except to sleep
if and when he decides to come in, we told the vet to board him. Turned out to be for a week since we happened to have company for much of that time. I still don't know how much the bill was. When we got him "for free" years ago, I never pictured paying for such since I didn't want a cat anyway. Now there's no question that routine vet expenses like that are understood.

My wife and I had a brief discussion about extraordinary vet care expenses before we got our two dogs. Since we've had extensive discussion about such decisions for each other (as well as each other's Healthcare Power of Attorney), I'm not sure where the line would be for our dogs, but I'm pretty sure that the two of us would easily be on the same page for any particular decision.
