lol 5 cats, not 8, plus George who is outside. The house is only 1900 sq. feet, so, yes, it's too small for a dog - for now.

Oh yeah, we also have 6 fish tanks.
Dammit, Dom! Don't leave us hanging.

Saltwater? Fresh? Populated with ???

I currently still have Montgomery. He's 13 and I found a huge tumor on him last week. I've always been the "oh I won't spend any money on an old cat" guy until I was actually put in the situation. Surgery scheduled for June (depending on blood work results).

If I can figure out how to post a pic of the furry guy I will.
Ugh, sorry about Montgomery, that sucks. Hope he pulls through.
Frankie has had a tough year - he has stomatitis - a really bad infection/inflammation of the gums. He had to have about 3/4 of his teeth removed. Because his mouth hurt so much, he lost a lot of weight...but he's finally turned a corner and doesn't seem to be in pain anymore.

Good luck to Montgomery. Oliver (pictured several posts above) had a huge knot (tumor?) behind his left shoulder a few months ago. Vet removed it, and he's doing fine after being out of action for a few weeks. My wife removed his last stitches about ten days ago, and he's doing fine. Most expensive free cat ever!

The worst for us was a feral cat (we named him Nuts because his balls were yuuge!) that befriended Oliver several years ago. He looked like a miniature version and shadowed him everywhere, but wouldn't come close to either of us. After 5 or 6 years he got snakebit (we think). Took him to the vet--we knew it was bad when he let us pick him up--but it was too late.

Found him as a kitten. His mom and siblings lived in a construction site where the doors were installed but only partially chained so a cat could squeeze through and it was glass walls so could see them inside. Local residents would often come out and feed the mom so they were fairly well known.

One day we found outside the site in some bushes. Weren’t sure what to make of it. Ex gf wanted to adopt but I thought mom would come back for him. He looks super weak though so we’re worried. We find what appears to be a distended rectum and realize he is out here to die.

Decide to bring him home and call a vet to save how much it’ll cost to save him. Notice it’s actually not his bowels but rather feces which have hardened into shell covering his ass. After much soaking in warm water it finally comes dislodged and he immediately evacuates some of the nastiest poo I’ve ever seen that appeared like graphite followed by constant diarrhea. Who knows how long he’d been blocked up.

Grew up to be quite a handsome cat, really miss him, it made me incredibly sad just going through my photos of him just now

none of you can pronounce his name anyway so no point in mentioning it

Nuts sunning in an old birdbath. RIP Nuts. (Must have been too late to edit again.)

Rick what does he have his paws on in that first pic?

Re: Montgomery (Monty)....thanks for well wishes. Good thing is he (I think) has no idea about his tumor. He's acting completely fine.

But, needless to say, Monty has gotten whatever he wants the last week. Oh you want tuna juice on your food? Ok, no problem. Ham? Sure, why not. Catnip? Here's a pound of it, go nuts. Milk? Suuuuuuure, here's a pint.

He's loving life right now....probably wondering what's going on with my generosity.

does that have to be connected to your plumbing?

Does it really work well? My girlfriend has tried a bunch of cat boxes and they all disappoint

Yes, it connects to the water going into the machine and to either a toilet or washer line going out. It washes and cleans and has varying settings. The litter is washable pellets. Everything the cat pisses and shits goes down the drain.

It’s disgusting to clean, tho.

thanks, I thought it cleaned itself, why so disgusting to clean?

damn, that thing is more expensive than human shitters I install in my houses

Lol you have to take it apart and clean it every 6 months or so.

And yes, it’s expensive. But so worth it. Especially with 5 cats. We have 2 of them.

I've been toying with the idea of adopting one... the old lady would love it. I am struggling with the poop question, I hate the idea of him pooping all over my new paver patio.

Re: Cat Genie

We used to have one, but have a Litter Robot now. Cat Genie’s clean cycle was annoyingly long and the odor could be terrible when it was in the dry stage. I also didn’t like how they lock you into their product ecosystem. The sewage drain is also potentially damaging to normal septic/sewage systems.

Litter Robot isn’t without its issues, but it’s been way less hassle than the Cat Genie.

If you want one the big boys, poop might be low on the list of issues...

Toilet training isn't really an option!

Tortoise poop has not been a problem, as they are dry little tater tots sized poops that are easily picked up.

lol that looks cruel and I wouldn't do that.

The CatGenies can be pretty smelly if the cats have diarrhea or very small poops that the scooper misses and the heater starts. When it happens, we yell, "The Cat Genie is baking biscuits!" And then I have to scoop out the little baked poops out of the genie.

We've tried so many different cat litter boxes...we also have a cabinet where a normal litter box goes in one room, and there's another litter box in a guest room. I'll check out the Litter Robot.
