My sister-in-law's Dad has a small herd of pet fallow deer. They're amazing, completely tame and super friendly, especially if you have food.
It's weird them coming up to nuzzle you when I'm used to to them running a mile if you get within 200yards of them. Just got to be a bit careful not to get accidently castrated by the antlers!
Goats make great pets, allegedly. I used to work with a guy whose pet goat would run and jump up into his arms every time he came home.
Now I want a goat too!
You're close enough to Cowboy Cold that he could probably hook you up with the goat of your dreams. If CC has been lucky enough to dodge the fires. Good luck to all those folks out there.
I'm quite a bit further south of the fires. My location is actually where I reside. I do have friends that live in that area and it's obviously a bad situation.
As far as goats go, if you want everything imaginable consumed including your plants, siding, wooden fence, patio furniture etc. Then by all means, get yourself a goat. If you want an exotic pet, get a pot belly pig. Extremely intelligent, easy to house train and leash train to impress your neighbors when you take them for a walk.
I had goats. Just let her know that they will eat every plant in your backyard (can't have anything pretty) and they are escape artists. If they escape, they will jump on your cars or anything high they can get to. She will also have to learn to trim their hooves. It's easy, but some people don't realize this.
Pretty sure when we both retire, my GF and I will find a little farm and have goats, donkeys, chickens, who knows what else...maybe start a rescue place for old animals no one wants.
