Don't get a plastic one. Get a heavier one to give the kid some bad ass neck muscles while he's wearing the grape squeezer anyway.

- The 90 years of perfect head vs 3 months of slight discomfort argument is quite compelling.

- Yeah, when they're awake they're supposed to be on their stomachs, but on their backs to sleep. Reduces SIDS.

This seems like one of those things that emotionally looks and feels very uncomfortable to do, but logically makes sense (assuming there are no health risks). Seems like a good idea.

If any of the other playgroup parents give you crap for your son wearing this just start slapping their babies in the head until those kids need one too.

Talked to a few parents in the last few minutes, definitely leaning towards this.

In addition to thoughts on the process itself, I am now accepting suggestions for decoration. Probably gonna be a Red Sox theme if we do it, but that seems pretty trite.

So when these friends of ours first son was born, he came out with his head looking like ****ing Alien head with tong marks all over his face and ****. I mean freakishly long. The delivery totally ****ed up his head. After a few months it hadn't really snapped back at all.

The doctor at some townie hospital had him fitted with one of these things and he was wearing it for quite some time. Fast forward to my second being born and I'm at Brigham & Womens Hospital in Boston and somehow the conversation I'm having with some neo-natal nurse turns to this subject and I'm telling her about this kid.

Once I mention the fitted helmet thing, she just shakes her head a little and I'm like 'What?...' and she says 'Won't do anything for him. They're wasting their time. Its too late.'

Sure enough, they were wasting their time. His head grew out a little, but not because of the headgear. But after his hair grew in, you couldn't even tell.


That all being said, I'd definitely do it for a couple months around the house and at night just for my own peace of mind in the future. I wouldn't want any 'what ifs' lingering. Your scenario is a lot different and sounds more 'fixable', and Al's side-by-side images are pretty compelling iyam.

He will never remember this and, because of this, will thank you one day when he gets older. Anything that is a positive and is not memorable will be A-ok by him. Do it, it's only 3 months.

a) Its not like u can wait until he/she is old enough to make their own decision
b) If u dont give it and all the other kids have perfect shaped heads that's not good
c) the world is just gna get more and more image concious i guess - in 10 years all the kids will prob be using these.

I guess its just kinda like a necessary evil - yeh it might be wrong using them and the general thinking behind these things might be i dno kinda taking innocence away from children and all that - but its necesary cuz if ur kid doesnt get it, who knows what the reprecussions could be (I understand that sounds ******ed, but they might be less desirable for marriage, less desirable from an insurance point of view - tons of this stuff).

I think this is kinda interesting because it is similar too, although obv less severe than genetically modifying children - like in the UK in some cases parents can choose the sex and sometimes design the child to an extent. In a world where the majority of parents 'design' their kids, if you dont design urs where does he/she stand ?

I have a 4 yr old and a 5 month old. Both had flatness that goes away once they're neck muscles are stronger. Unless it was REALLY pronounced I don't think I'd do it - otherwise on my deathbed i'd have to be like "Come closer... closer... I have to ... tell you that when you were a baby.. your mom and I we.. we SHAPED YOUR ****ING HEAD."

Yeah, Bosta, but on the flip side what if his head is weird-looking and he finds out we could've fixed it and we didn't? That seems worse to me.

My daughter is four, I recall some flatness with her head too. I have no idea if his is more pronounced. I will post pics of his head tomorrow, my scanner is at my office.
