So my six month-old son Jack is and has always been a great sleeper, 12 hours a night. Until about a week ago this entire 12 hours was spent flat on his back in the same position. As a result, the back of his head is SLIGHTLY flat. This is a pretty common thing with infants because they repeat over and over that you have to put kids to sleep on their back.
My wife mentions this to our pediatrician who refers us to some cranial health place. The doctor doesn't make a determination one way or another. We went today and of course they recommend we get one of these goddamn things for his head (that is not my child)
Basically, it's a thing that re-shapes the head.
More info: to look at my son, it's NOT noticeable at all. There are zero health implications for him, it's purely cosmetic. MAYBE glasses would fit weird on him or something someday, but that's about it. His head isn't perfect, putting this thing on it would make it more perfect.
This is some crazy LA lunacy, right? Do you people in the flyover deal with this ****?
On the one hand, I don't want to be the crazy people making sure our son's head is perfect. I'm sure MY head isn't perfect, and look at me. And it looks uncomfortable as hell. He'd have to wear it 23 hours a day for at least three months.
On the other hand, he's super-mellow and would get used to the thing in half a day, I'm sure. And he'll never remember this, he's a baby. And who knows, maybe someday he's happy we did it, I dunno.
And OF COURSE the clinic said he should get it, how many people do you think they send away without trying to sell something? Not many, I bet. I wouldn't be surprised if the doctor gets a referral fee, either.
I feel like I'm passing up a freeroll if I don't do it (no downside, possible upside). On the other hand, putting some binder thing on dude's head? This is crazy.
Thoughts please.
