People want to put something on my son's head People want to put something on my son's head

So my six month-old son Jack is and has always been a great sleeper, 12 hours a night. Until about a week ago this entire 12 hours was spent flat on his back in the same position. As a result, the back of his head is SLIGHTLY flat. This is a pretty common thing with infants because they repeat over and over that you have to put kids to sleep on their back.

My wife mentions this to our pediatrician who refers us to some cranial health place. The doctor doesn't make a determination one way or another. We went today and of course they recommend we get one of these goddamn things for his head (that is not my child)

Basically, it's a thing that re-shapes the head.

More info: to look at my son, it's NOT noticeable at all. There are zero health implications for him, it's purely cosmetic. MAYBE glasses would fit weird on him or something someday, but that's about it. His head isn't perfect, putting this thing on it would make it more perfect.

This is some crazy LA lunacy, right? Do you people in the flyover deal with this ****?

On the one hand, I don't want to be the crazy people making sure our son's head is perfect. I'm sure MY head isn't perfect, and look at me. And it looks uncomfortable as hell. He'd have to wear it 23 hours a day for at least three months.

On the other hand, he's super-mellow and would get used to the thing in half a day, I'm sure. And he'll never remember this, he's a baby. And who knows, maybe someday he's happy we did it, I dunno.

And OF COURSE the clinic said he should get it, how many people do you think they send away without trying to sell something? Not many, I bet. I wouldn't be surprised if the doctor gets a referral fee, either.

I feel like I'm passing up a freeroll if I don't do it (no downside, possible upside). On the other hand, putting some binder thing on dude's head? This is crazy.

Thoughts please.

The problem is, people will think your kid is shortbus special, not flat head special.

The doc is just trying to make extra $$, just like orthodontists suggesting braces to anyone (since nobodys teeth are perfect).

Does he wear it just during sleep or 24/7.

I wouldn't let my child wear it in public because then people would think he's a sped, and I'm all about appearances.

Right. And if I pass up a chance for him to have a better head for life because I don't want three months of people thinking I have a ******ed kid, that makes me a pretty bad parent, doesn't it?

Hold the kid by his feet and spin around in a circle really fast for a long time. The kid's head will be perfectly spherical.

I can't believe you would deny your son the chance at having a perfectly shaped head. I would be so f'in pissed if I found about this when I got older!

Just keep him in the basement for a few months, imo.

I would trust your initial instinct that this is not needed.

I wouldn't have looked at this as being at all weird whatsoever. This isn't at all freakish. I've never really even thought there was a perfect shaped head. (BTW all of this post is serious and not some kind of weak attempted joke in conjunction with my avatar, that is a coincidence here.)

fwiw I saw 2 kids with this and I figured it was to shape their head, not because they're special. When you posted this I was like omg I was right.

that is really weird to me that you somehow immediately assumed a kid wearing a helmet type thing, was in reality wearing a head shaping device...

Just make him wear this outfit and constantly shout out "we're going to his riding lessons!" without anyone asking.

If you let your kid wear this he could really kick some ass at daycare by headbutting the other kids. The tard helmet may set him up for alpha-maledom.

Also, you can have them decorated with cartoon characters, sports themes, etc. I'm not kidding.

if the price is reasonable i think having a perfect head shape will serve your serve your kid well for the next 90 yrs of his life compared to 3months of ppl looking at him weird that he wont remember.

Also I think this will be super standard in 20yrs or w/e anyways.

however I would assume that flat is better than not flat. Also arent you supposed to lie babies on their stomach so their neck strengthens or something?
