Was there in January for 3 days. Rented a car for the day and went around the island, stopped at various beaches/lookouts. Ate at a shrimp truck. Brief tour of the dole pineapple plantation was neat, make sure to get their famous ice cream dessert thing. North shore was very nice, watched some surfers for a while.

Another day did the pearl harbor thing which was about a half day between that and being in a tour bus back and forth while stopping at some other war based landmarks (cemetery/memorials).

Waikiki is good for a day too between the beach, shopping and restaurants/bars.

The hike up to diamondhead is worth it and takes 2-3 hours.

Didnt make it to Hanauma bay which we would have liked to, but it's super busy so couldn't fit it in.

Other than that found there to be much more to do on other islands.

Definitely drive around the island. Take a surf lesson from the guys at Hawaiian Fire — they take you to a spot where the waves are consistent and small and you can learn to stand in a morning. North shore is solid. If surf is up, you’ll be able to watch surfers and potentially huge waves. If it’s flat, there is a rock at one edge of Waimea bay you can jump off of into the ocean; it’s probably 20 feet above the water. Watch locals do it for a bit so you don’t kill yourself. There are a couple of different hikes I can recommend if you’re interested at varying levels of intensity, pm me if interested.

If you hike up Diamondhead be sure you go early. It gets really crowded.
