But instead it actually is a PROTOTYPICAL illusion and a really neat one and you dont know what an illusion is.
The original illusion is amazing because you could put it in paint and cut B and put it next to A and see they are the same color that's amazing.

This one is different, the lines meet at different angles and they're not even the same object.

It's kinda like saying a square and a rhombus with the same length of sides are the exact same object, if they look different it's just an illusion.

It's an exaggeration I know, but just because the sides are the same length doesn't make it an amazing illusion. It would've been amazing if you flipped it sideways and B became A etc.

Re: Optical Illusions Thread

The one that you stare at before looking around the room is awesome!

Also, the castle works if you stare at other points in the picture too. No idea why they chose to use the dot right in the center other than that's "traditional" for this sort of picture, but I tested but staring at one of the spires before turning into a color image. Quite awesome.

Also, it's tilting me that my mother's computer apparently doesn't have MSPaint, so I can't see how awesome the chess board one is.

I did just this. I've seen this before, but it's still pretty freaky:

I agree if you measure the lengths they are the same. I do not agree that it is the same box rotated approximately 90 degrees.

EDIT: To answer your question, I'm saying that the lengths are the same because you CAN'T measure in that 3rd direction.

You could build boxes just like those, set them up in those same dimensions, and then take a photograph giving essentially the same picture as what we see. But if you could examine those boxes in 3D you would see that they are not anywhere near the same shape. In fact Box 2 does not even have square interior angles.

Yeah I noticed that one is pretty dumb. Was trying to figure out how to put it into words that it's not even really a "correct" illusion. It's just silliness.

Just take your hands, and cover up the entire image save for the two squares and it'll look way more clear to you. Or look at 27offsuits rendering.

That's what I did too. Then I took my hands off and instantly they became different colors again. Witchcraft!

Re: Optical Illusions Thread

awesome thread...

the hidden stuff in the text is awesome..takes me back to when those kinds of pictures were just coming out...there was a kiosk in the middle of the mall when i was young, and there'd be 20 people staring at these pictures, with smatterings of 'i can see it!' and, 'dangit, i can't see anything!'..

good times..

Re: Optical Illusions Thread

thinking about it, they were all framed pictures...

people actually bought these, and put them up on the walls?? i mean, i'm not gonna knock the next man's taste, but once the original fun wears off, you're still gonna have this thing on your wall..

From what I understand, it doesn't work if you remove some of the more important letters from a sentence. You can only randomize it within syllables pretty much.

This is randomized:
