Someone point me to some iteration of Batman that doesn't suck. I haven't read any actual comics, the Adam West show blew, the 1989 wasn't special, the Danny Devito thing was gross, Arnold sucked, Christian Bale and his dumb voice was unbearable.

Why are people so enamored with this garbage?

Spoiler:
Only comic **** that I like is X-Men

Dark Knight Returns is pretty universally loved. Old man Bruce is always fun.

The new movie with Robert Pattinson and Paul Dano looks like an intriguing take.

Been Affleck was top batman

The Dark Knight was so loved that a bunch of mouthbreathers went on IMDb and had it rated as the #1 movie of all time, above The Godfather. Then, instead of having the correct horrified reaction at the fact that they were Lenny unwittingly killing a rabbit through sheer idiocy, they doubled down and kept trying to solidify its spot. Once some level of sanity took back over, it dropped, but The Godfather lost the spot seemingly for good, and Shawshank has it now.

The moral of the story is that while Christopher Nolan is quite good, his fanboys should be marginalized out of society.

Edit: Good grief, that movie is still sitting as high as #4 all-time on there?? It's like they basically banded together to break a list that was once fairly credible.

No, they're really not. Despite the fact that they allowed Christopher Nolan fanboys to try to break their site - and all the while openly volunteer to be correctly marginalized out of society - IMDb ratings are probably the most valuable ones out there. They're more reliable than Rotten Tomatoes.

Lol, you know I despise most rating systems. I say if you're interested in something, just watch it.

People put too much stock in the cinematic opinions of others.
04-30-2021 , 07:39 PM
I've never rated a movie or show on those sites, so they don't mean ****.
04-30-2021 , 07:42 PM
If you don't pay attention to the cinematic opinions of others, how are you supposed to jump online and tell them how wrong they were afterward?

Spoiler:
Big Trouble In Little China should be an 8 minimum just for having pai gow tiles shown in the opening gambling scene

There are more interesting-looking movies out there than there are movie-watching hours in the remainder of my life. It's useful to have a guidepost that betters your odds of seeing something good/reduces your odds of seeing something bad. Those ratings aren't perfect, but playing the probabilities is a good thing.

I dunno LKJ, I've seen you personally devote an inordinate amount of time discussing both the validity of these ratings as well as the construction of your own, not to mention debating on what said ratings should actually BE. I'd argue these activities add up to a significant number of hours that could've been spent watching something. Getting recommendations is one thing, but that can easily be done without ratings. You should obviously do you, because what the **** do I know, but I say this scale-parsing nittery is for the birds.

Regardless, as one of my favorite film professors would often say, even the most terrible of movies have something valuable to take away from them-- no matter how short the sequence or tiny the idea. If you're playing probabilities, chances are solid that those 2-3 hours wouldn't have been spent better anyway.

That's what ol' Jack Burton always says.
