What to look for in a man's bag? What to look for in a man's bag?

So for years I'm basically not going out of the house without my backpack. It's mostly empty though, as I mainly need it to carry stuff like my glasses/shades, smokes (now heets), hand lotion, tissues, something to write etc. In winter time these things would mostly fit into my coat's pockets. Only for shopping all that space available is really justified.

Meanwhile I think I'm getting too old for walking around with a backpack. I have to wear a suit every now and then, and I think I'm looking like a shmuck with a suit and a backpack. Also sometimes I have to take my work's laptop home with me in it's own backpack, so I have to carry my backpack along with it, looking like an even bigger shmuck.

So I decided to switch things up and start using a man's bag, a.k.a. man bag, man-purse or murse. For those who don't know about man's bags, a pretty common design looks like this:

The bag above is on the bigger side though, most of these are smaller. Certain kinds are made to be worn around the wrist, but that's just stupid imo:

So, any recommendations OOT? Do you use a man's bag yourself or did you ever consider it? Thoughts on best materials?

<3 Horst Schlämmer..

I have a couple of bags, but most of the time I need to transport stuff and look like an adult at the same time, I just use a fancier backpack. I got a couple to match different sweaters/jackets.

One I use is this one, but I paid less than 50% of list price for it:

A really nice leather bag, worn across your body and not on one shoulder would be acceptable. Also, when you wear a suit you should mimic the attire of the most senior male person in the group, wear what he does. Most big wigs in my company never wear a coat, always dress shirts, slacks, no tie.

I wouldn't want to spent that kind of money for a backpack even at 50% - unless it comes with mad gadgets.

Not gonna mimic anyone. The suit thing really is just a small aspect of this.

I have something almost exactly like this

I've had it for about 10 years, and absolutely love it. I constantly get compliments on it from chicks, and surprisingly don't get made fun of that often by guys.

If your friends aren't constantly making fun of your purse, then they kinda suck

**** what everyone thinks. I'm old and I'm planning on wearing a backpack when I'm out playing poker. If old guys can wear jorts, white socks and sneakers with teflon clasps, we can damn well shoulder a backpack everywhere.

I'm old enough to predate the backpack generations and was in my 50's before I ever owned one. I used to carry a soft leather briefcase and it was a pita. Then I finally made the move to a backpack and never looked back. Carrying anything sucks when you have the option to strap it on your back.

Obvious answer is the messenger bag, but I can’t help feel a little dubious about needing to carry lotion around with you.

Whoa whoa whoa, hold on OP. You sometimes wear two backpacks? One for a laptop and one for other stuff? People will definitely judge you for wearing two small backpacks because it is straight up stupid, regardless of whatever subjective fashion opinion you hold. You know there are backpacks that can fit a laptop and plenty of other stuff, right? Is there some weird requirement from your work that you carry your laptop in a special unicorn backpack?

Use a duffle bag with shoulder straps, like the kind you bring to the gym.

I can't imagine any scenario where I'd need to lug around a backpack or European Carryall in my every day life.

I have a laptop bag for the rare occasions I need to travel with my laptop and I have a backpack for camping but don't use them regularly.

If possible, stand in front of a mirror. Check for any swelling on the scrotal skin.

Examine each testicle with both hands. Place the index and middle fingers under the testicle with the thumbs placed on top. Roll the testicle gently between the thumbs and fingers -- you shouldn't feel any pain when doing the exam. Don't be alarmed if one testicle seems slightly larger than the other, that's normal.

Find the epididymis, the soft, tubelike structure behind the testicle that collects and carries sperm. If you are familiar with this structure, you won't mistake it for a suspicious lump. Cancerous lumps usually are found on the sides of the testicle but can also show up on the front. Lumps on or attached to the epididymis are not cancerous.

If you find a lump on your testicle or any of the other signs of testicular cancer listed below, see a doctor, preferably a urologist, right away. The abnormality may not be cancer, but if it is testicular cancer, it will spread if it is not stopped by treatment. Even if it is something else like an infection, you are still going to need to see a doctor. Waiting and hoping will not fix anything. Please note that free floating lumps in the scrotum that are not attached in any way to a testicle are not testicular cancer. When in doubt, get it checked out - if only for peace of mind!
