I laughed so hard at that, and I think I would even if I wasn't drunk too

Saw Amon Amarth in Oslo last night. ****ing amazing gig. Bit shorter than I'd hoped for, and the support band wasn't my cup of tea. Great atmosphere: they're damn good performers. Not had the chance to catch them live before. Definitely worth the splitting headache and destroyed voice today.

Drunk and Australia = grindnrocking Blood Duster

Blood Duster - Myspaceyourface

Thrash from Finland:

The Jasser Arafats - Condemnation

Allen West's new band sounds a lot like Obituary and that makes me happy. No album yet and youtube only has some live stuff with crappy sound. Go there instead:

Nice thread!

Although the recommendations I liked best (Agalloch, Pelican, Textures) are pretty borderline modern extreme metal and is the sort of stuff you'd expect a guy with a Tool avatar to like

Glad to see FF still making relevant music, haven't checked them out since "Obsolete". Glass Casket tracks were good; and why can I not stop listening to that iwabo track?

Most of my favourite stuff is too tame and/or obvious to bother offering up here, but I do periodically like to drink too much whisky and stick "brutal death metal" or even something insane like "goregrind" into last.fm and see if I can find anything that catches my ear. Some random finds:

Misery Index - Fed To The Wolves

Ahumado Granujo - Cold Turkey

Jig Ai - Geishas Suck European *****

I went to this on the weekend:

Best extreme underground gig Australia has seen in years, so good. Unfortunately was in a blackout for the first night and remember nothing, but the second night was sober and it was awesome. Hellbringer and Assaulter stood out the most, Hellbringer sound like Slayer, Sodom, etc, Assaulter has ex-Destroyer 666 member and is similar in lyrical and musical style yet very much their own sound. Sick sick gig.

Anyone have any good rec's as far as instrumental metal? Been listening to a lot of Cloudkicker, Animals as leaders, scale the summit and some other guys who mostly write, produce and release independently and could really use some more instrumental stuff.

Had very weird metal moment yesterday, was talking to a friend of a friend and we got into metal and I stated that Arch Enemy and Opeth are two of my favorite death metally bands. And by some freak cooincidence he plays guitar in "Witchery" which has the drummer from Opeth, bassist from Arch Enemy and guitar player from The Haunted :O

Love living in Sweden! =) think he goes by the name "Richard Corpse" when he plays for Witchery, which is also a good band now that I've listened to them!

Ludicra - melodic black metal from san francisco. I'm not into the old school black metal vocal style, but this is a great band nonetheless.
