is there instrumental metal music, the lyrics are always horrid

I really like the music, especially the insane drumming but can't stand most songs because of the singer

You are just referring to death and black metal (and derivatives) I assume? Surely the vocals in Metallica, etc are okay? What about these vocals (power metal)? Iced Earth - The Coming Curse

IMO: The music went down hill when Carly started singing and the music got more melodic. They were def not known for there "stereo typical" melodies. Just by your comment you can admit that the first 3 albums are def there best and what should be recommended to a possible new fan of Candiria.

I remember seeing them buying there CD's back in the glory days (circa 94-98). And they really changed there sound. They didn't sell out as bad as V.O.D but IMO they were going for a more mainstream sound. To try and capture a bigger fan base. Which nowadays at 31 I really cant blame them I would probably want to do the same. BUT when i was a teenager/young 20's and caught up in the "hardcore" keeping it real mentality it bothered me. It still does suck when one of your favorite bands changes there sound so drastically though. (see the new All That Remains album "whether you like them or not" for a prefect example)

I spoke about them as a 3rd party since you have previously said that you were basically a fill in member and didn't really write the music. No disrespect meant to you.
No disrespect taken. I just meant that I didn't consider it selling out. Had they released 300%, toured on it for awhile, then released W.D.K.Y., then you could make an argument for them selling out. But being that 2 of them probably should've died in the accident, their approach evolved. I didn't like the album that much either, but I understood. Ken even told me that he didn't think they had another 300% type of album left in them. Accident or not, the next album would've been more like W.D.K.Y., but maybe not AS toned down. Carley was wanting to start singing more anyway.

And of course those 3 albums are phenomenal. P.O.S.D. and 300% are in my top 10 albums of all time. I worshiped this band before I joined them. Almost to a point of rediculous

Have you heard Kiss The Lie? It's pretty good actually. I'd rather have K.T.L. been the first post accident album rather then W.D.K.Y.

This thread stirs up a lot of good (and old) memories. I was really into death/black metal for about 5-6 years and gradually lost interest in the newer bands, as I felt like most were just rehashing what the originals had done.

I'll post a few links of what I think are really the originators in the genres:

Emperor - The Loss and Curse of Reverence Unbelievably talented band
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9ItETLB23Pw

Immortal - Damned in Black This is "newer" Immortal which is much thrashier
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gRyv9...eature=related

Satyricon - Mother North Probably my favorite black metal song of all time
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jbQEIkeZsh4

Dissection - Where Dead Angels Lie Great melodic black metal
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j-uM6oDkw8c

Carcass - Heartwork Traditional death metal, carcass changed a lot over their career
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WXnJhrH22zU

At The Gates - Slaughter of the Soul Melodic Swedish death metal
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hJme5uubkyQ

Cryptopsy - Phobophile Vocals are ridiculous, but Cryptopsy is awesome

When I saw tallica recently, Gojira and Fear Factory were announced as the support. Turns out they were the support right up to the show I was going to, but not including it.

Was mega pissed.

Speaking of Metallica, I know you all probably hate them now, but I think their new stuff is pretty good.

My musical tastes have changed broadly in the following directions:

heavy metal / hard rock period 1987-1990 (Metallica, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Faith No More, Def Leppard) ->

thrash metal period 1990-1993 (Sepultura, Slayer, Pantera, Megadeth, Kreator) ->

death / doom metal period 1993-1996 (My Dying Bride, Paradise Lost, Obituary, Death, Carcass) ->

gothic / doom metal period 1996-2000 (Therion, Katatonia, Anathema, Moonspell, The Gathering) ->

progressive metal / rock period 2000-2005 (Opeth, Dream Theater, Porcupine Tree, Pain Of Salvation, Tool) ->

avantgarde metal / black metal period 2005-2008 (Arcturus, Enslaved, Negura Bunget, Ulver, Shining)

post-metal / post-rock period 2008-… (Isis, Cult Of Luna, Pelican, Callisto, Mouth Of The Architect)

I nearly don't listen to such old-scool styles like heavy metal, thrash metal, death metal anymore, these styles got me into metal, but I'm always trying to discover new music.

The main styles I listen to today are:

Experimental/Post Metal, bands/albums/song samples from Prog Archives: http://www.progarchives.com/subgenre.asp?style=44

Tech/Extreme Prog Metal: http://www.progarchives.com/subgenre.asp?style=43

Progressive Metal: http://www.progarchives.com/subgenre.asp?style=19

Post Rock/Math rock: http://www.progarchives.com/subgenre.asp?style=32

Jazz Rock/Fusion: http://www.progarchives.com/subgenre.asp?style=30

Seriously this ^^^ Burzum is only popular because of Varg's endless notoriety for his deeds in the past. If this was Band X sending their demo into a record label, it would get tossed in the trash.

Taake is another one of my fav black metal bands that probably doesn't get a lot of credit.

Going to see Slayer live was what got me into metal. I saw them play a bunch of times and one show their encore was the entire "Reign in blood album." Pretty epic IMO as they set the stage to rain blood while they played the finale."

Mostly I can't listen to this stuff for too long though. Tool is probably not heavy enough for most but that's the only band that I can listen to with regularity anymore. F being old.

They're ok. The show is awesome, and the music is perfect for the show. But just listening to the album by itself it's not that great.
