If there is a better thrash metal album than this, please post it. I don't have anything that tops it

I've yet to open this thread. Actually not positive what constitutes extreme metal. Will look into this more.

Tonight I have opportunity to go to a Volbeat/Killswitch Engage concert. However at this late stage I would be going by myself, and still quite concert inexperienced. I do quite like Volbeat though and have been wanting to see them. Just not really sure what Id do standing by myself in general admission among that crowd.

Been asked about metal genres a lot lately so I made a show about them today. Check it out:

Why don't I listen to your show all the time? SSoS and Dew Scented, two of my very favorites, 6 songs in. Every time I hear SSoS I have to go listen to that Tafkata record again.

I don't understand how somebody would know who Deathhammer is. I Googled, no mention of the Seattle show, think the most views one of their songs had is like 9,000.

I'm going to see The Amity Affliction at a bar in Seattle tomorrow. After googling genres, I realized that I'm a metalcore guy. Does that have a place ITT?

Metalcore is definitely modern extreme metal. So I'll allow it

I never heard of Deathhammer before this thread either.

This one got 109k views

From their Metal Archives entry:

Quote:
Trivia: On the cover of the Darkthrone album F.O.A.D. from 2007, the Deathhammer logo appears on the leather jacket of the drawn figure.
They might be obscure by mainstream metal standards but with 3 albums and 1 EP released someone who really is into extreme metal might have come across them.

I am on mailing lists for tons of labels and PR firms because of my radio show. Surely found out about them through one of those outlets.

They were the first band that Fenriz ever played on Radio Fenriz.

Also, Hurt, when you're a record nerd you tend to know other record nerds who find all sorts of stuff.

That said, these guys are relatively well known in underground metal circles because they're from Norway and they're as good as anyone playing thrash.

Every 16-20 year old kid that's in a thrash band in Phoenix was at this show.

You're right in that I don't know who that is, wrong in I have no intention to inquire.

Though I am curious, what song would you say is a shining example of Deathhammer?

I think I'm always partial to the first song by a band that really gets its hooks into me, so for me it's probably Warriors Of Evil.

Fenriz is in one of the biggest bands in the black metal sphere, Darkthrone. He's begun doing a regular Souncloud show featuring all sorts of lesser known, aggressive music. He led off the first show with that song, so if you wanted to listen to that and then a bunch of other rad stuff you could just click this link, https://soundcloud.com/heavytassen/radio-fenriz-1

if you just want to hear that one song,

Also, listen to KJS's show Strike Of Death and hear a ton of awesome bands across a bunch of different genres.

Oh damn I didn't know he did that.

Thanks for the plug.

**** yeah it did. They ripped. So glad I got you to hit that show up. I grinned from ear to ear their entire set, and in between songs I just kept saying aloud, "Mother ****ing Deathhammer, man. Mother ****ing Deathhammer!"

They were sooo tight. To play this kinda **** live, particularly with touring musicians that don't even play with the band full time, with basically no slop is ridiculous.

Here's some footage from the LA show.

Here's Voodoo Rites again, but the sound is a little better.

Also, I feel like I should have posted this for Hurt earlier because it's absurd.

Seeing The Amity Affliction tonight, and just now see that Ghost is also in town. That would be sick. Really spoiled by the concert opportunities here.

Which guys were the fill-ins?

Seriously one of the best live shows I have seen in several years. Only downside was they went on at 12:30AM.

The drummer and the guitar player (I think) that was balding and wearing sunglasses and are touring members. The guitar player with long hair (I think) and the bassist/vocalist write and play everything in the studio. I could have the guitarists mixed up, but the balding guy was wearing a Lobotomized shirt in Tempe, and one of the touring guys is in a band called Lobotomized, so I assume that's him.
