oh, so it's supposed to be funny because the girl is dressed like a normal person or something? This may come as a shock to you, but there are quite a few metalheads who don't have their entire bodies tattooed and pierced or wear black tshirts and ripped jeans 24/7/365. Some of them are even women! Imagine that! So when I see the girl in that video talking about metal I'm not gonna be like "OH MAN THATS SO CRAZY HOW THIS NORMAL CHICK IS TALKING ABOUT METAL HURHURHURRRRRR TOTALLY UNEXPECTED BECAUSE I JUDGE PEOPLE BY THEIR CLOTHES"

If you want to see someone make fun of the metalhead stereotype look in a way that's actually kinda funny then watch this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dnpg...feature=relmfu

My current favourite metal bands are Animals as Leaders, Periphery, and Meshuggah.

I recently found out that these are all considered "djent" and that the legitimacy of the genre is disputed/gets a lot of hate on youtube. Is that anything to worry about? Is my taste in metal just awful? Are my preferences all just a fad?

Yeah. Mainly in regards to their low register distorted guitar sound and the rhythmically complex nature of their riffs.

Personally I'd have periphery alot lower, and I would bump up Uneven Structure and Structures.

periphery sux balls. I'd have sybreed in the top 5 for sure. Nice link tho, there's some bands I've never heard on there.

I like Periphery but I could understand why some people dislike them. Their vocals have a Linkin Park vibe at times, but I have to admit I like their singer (and no, I'm not a Linkin Park fan).

Ron,
Do you like any bands with non-screaming vocals?

im going to second rons hate of periphery, i bought one of their albums and removed it from my ipod a few days later because i couldn't stand it...but im also not a meshuggah fan (blasphemy?)

can't remember if they were already listed....

Symphonic Black Metal band called Carach Angren is incredible...very theatrical with each album covering an entire story about some kind of haunting...my favorite album is Death Came Through A Phantom Ship

That's some pretty sick news. Also goes with the guy who wanted to know about non-screaming vox (about 1/2 and 1/2). I don't like KSE at all now, but this album is awesome. And it's Jesse, not Howard on vocals. Howard was perfect with Blood Has Been Shed, but didn't click with KSE.

Some other great bands on there as well, especially DEP. I'll be out of town, but I'd snap go to this if I wasn't and I haven't been to a metal show in 7 or 8 years and hadn't planned on ever going to another one again.

KSE really suck now but I'd def go see them play AOJB with Jesse for nolstagia reasons. Going to see Between the buried and me and Animals as leaders tomorrow night, should be rad. Already seen BTBAM a few times but first time seeing AAL, have read around they kind of suck live but meh, still looking forward to it.

New Dragged Into Sunlight is ****ing fantastic. New Bell Witch/new Hell are also great but I can't find anything on Youtube.

Been a good year for doom.

I never got past Alive and Breathing, but that album is great. As much of a fan as I was of Howard, I didn't like them with him either.

If you want to watch one of the best drummers in the world. Check out this clip of Dave Lombardo live at Yankee Stadium. It really kicks in at 3:05. I showed it to a friend of mine that hates metal (he plays folk guitar) and he loved it.
