Oh man, excited to see this thread. Huge extreme music fan

I haven't read all the way back but I like a lot of contemporary black metal. American stuff like Krieg, Nachtmystium,Lurker of Chalice and all the southern Lord stuff. I saw Krallice and Urfaust play a show together recently that was incredible.

really disappointed with the new psycroptic album. it's generic ****. They peaked with scepter of the ancients imo.

I'm seeing Messhugah as support for Devin Townsend in a couple of weeks. Never really listened to Messhugah, though I've heard around the traps they have a solid following.

Any tips for pre-concert listening?

I'm gonna throw in here, unless already mentioned, that http://www.metalstorm.net is a great resource for these genres.

I've found so much great music using this site - reviews, all sorts of top lists, etc.

Dunno if Equilibrium is mentioned here. Only good german folk metal band I've heard. Their '08 album Sagas is amazing.
This is like the most fun, and epic at the same time, metal song I know of

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wkySlN3EqNo

and obviously Blut Im Auge

The EP "I" is amazing. Obzen (Is that what it's called?) and Destroy Erase Improve should do round it off.

As soon as i saw this awesome thread i was going to post about Meshuggah! Good to see everyone is as pumped as me.

Any fans of The Faceless out there? I'm sure i heard they're bringing out a new album. Loved their last two releases, this song is a beast.

Also you guys should check out Make Them Suffer, a deathcore band from Australia. They're bringing out an album soon. Can't get enough of them at the moment, one of my favourite Deathcore bands along with Oceano and Molotov Solution.

Nuclear Blast already had that link taken down...

Here are 30 second samples of each song, better than nothing I guess.

For all the Meshuggah fans, I listened to some of your recommendations before I saw them a few days ago with Townsend.

I didn't mind the "I" EP, listened to that a bit at work. Live though, they were pretty tight and crunchy. I could tell they've been doing this for ever, but I feel the vocals really suffer live, as with tons of metal bands really...

As a newbie to whatever that genre is, technical metal or whatever, I'm not not really won over yet. I'm not going to win any friends here by being critical of an old-school powerhouse, but it was pretty much just a relentless assault from beginning to end. You might say that's perfect - but I like a little more song craft and variation...

On another note, saw Machine Head on Friday. Not extreme metal by any sense, but what the hell happened to these guys?

Meshuggah aren't a bad that's all that easy to just step into if you havn't heard much of that sort of stuff before.

Some newer (more accessible) tech death stuff. It's not really similar to Meshuggah but it generally serves as a good warm up to getting into that sort tech/math metal stuff.

Might as well post some other stuff im listening to atm.
