This is true for run-of-the-mill beer, and perhaps some select nicer beers, but as I learned right here on 2p2, lots of nice beers are better served at warmer temperatures than iced mugs allow for, and the ice/condensation has a tendency to mess with the head and profile.
That said, I enjoy a light american beer in a frozen mug.
