You're dead wrong. It is very helpful. But I'm not surprised that you can't see why it is helpful.

Yes, it would be bad if you got fired. No, it would not be bad if you found a job you enjoy. If only someone had recommended months ago that you find another job with way less responsibility involved with it.

My brother is on disability because of his bi-polar and I could be too. Because I started working so young, I've paid enough into social security to get the maximum benefits if I go on disability. I'm hung up on the morality part. Legally I would definitely qualify and I have paid into social security for almost 20years, but I feel like I am able bodied and can contribute to society and it's just really ****ing hard to do while being crazy.

I dunno, I probably will never do this, but it crosses my mind sometimes.
I got one of your jokes, finally. You were pretending to be just as much of a scumbag as tbab. Funny!

I don't think you understand what the word "disability" means.

Doesn't it mean the disability to stay employed?

Isn't it possible for people to get SSDI for depression and/or anxiety?

I know that being diagnosed with bipolar is an automatic qualification for disability. I'm not blaming all of my problems at work on me being crazy. I do despise my boss and I'm stubborn and all, but being crazy makes everything so much harder.

My brother is Type 1 as well as the rest of my family and he will stay in the bed for weeks. He also self medicated with drugs for years. He started and owned a very successful business and two of my other brothers worked with him. They all became addicted to drugs and everything fell apart. Once he started taking the bipolar meds a couple of years ago, he got off of drugs instantly and my other brothers are still strung out. I was on the same medicine as him and it worked, but ****ed with my sleep so bad that it would be really dangerous for me to function at work. I've tried a few drugs and all seemed to affect my sleep, therefore affecting my safety at work. The meds I have now semi work, but I'm still swinging just not for extended periods and not as frequently and I'm trying everything thing else I can with vitamins, exercise, diet to stay normalized for longer periods.

I'm just really torn on how I feel about disability for being mental and I'm not sure if it's something I should seriously think about if I can't manage to not cause problems at work. I know I could run a business on my own where I wouldn't have to affect an employer with my craziness and I'm not a self medicating addict so that will certainly help.

I just don't know how much of my work struggles are do to being crazy or concious decisions and behavior that can be fixed.

I've just been thinking that if I get fired from this job, it might be worth it to do disability and get some intense therapy and be able to try out more drugs without worrying about work and possibly make more progress towards being stabilized for a while before looking for another job.

A couple of household crazy checks plus an astonishing poker win rate would make for a hefty East Texas income! Assuming noone exposes the sceam.

El D, I was just in a very bad downswing the last 3 days, the worst since this past summer. I don't want to clutter my log with stuff not related to fitness anymore and I just want a sounding board/feedback for a bit.
If my blogging is really bothering everyone and not adding anything to this thread, I'll stop.

Put it in your House of Blogs thread. If people want to read it there, they know where it is.

In order to qualify for disability, you must meet these requirements:
  1. Are you working? Your disability must be “total”.
To qualify for SSDI, your disability must be “total,” such that you are not able to perform “substantial gainful activity” (SGA) for at least one year. In 2017, if you are disabled but currently working and you make over $1,170/month, you are not considered disabled enough to qualify for SSDI benefits.
  2. Is your medical condition severe?
Under SSDI rules, your disability must be “severe” enough to interfere with your ability to perform basic work-related activities, such as walking, sitting, and remembering.
  3. Is your medical condition on the List of Impairments?
Okay, you get one out of five
  4. Can you do the work you did before?
SSDI rules look at whether your medical condition prevents you from doing the work you did prior to developing the condition. If it does not, then you are not considered disabled “enough” for SSDI purposes. If you cannot do your prior work, step five is considered.
  5. Can you do any other type of work?
If you cannot do your prior work, an evaluation is made as to whether you can perform any other kind of work. This evaluation considers your medical condition, your age, and your educational background, as well as any past work experiences or skills that you may have that could transfer to any other type of work. If you cannot do other work, you will be considered sufficiently disabled for SSDI purposes.

From the SS site:
"For each of the major body systems, we maintain a list of medical conditions that are so severe they automatically mean you are disabled"
The other criteria don't apply if you are automatically determined to be disabled from having a condition on the list.

The list of impairments are considered permanent or expected to result in death.
Bipolar qualifies because of the death risk of suicide from the number of people that commit suicide who are bipolar.

It's kinda funny. With all your **** posted on interpersonal relationships, diet, finances, etc., at times I feel compelled to recommend a few of the books I had my teenage kids read because when they're 18, they're on their own - mom & dad will be traveling and won't have time to wipe and polish their asses anymore, yet you're double their age and have a kid yourself.
