I got detained on trespassing charges where I work. My DL was taken and I was escorted 500 yards back to my office where one of my employees had to identify me before the office would release me.

I am best friends with the person that tried to have me arrested. I visit her virtually everyday and joke around about it.

It isn’t the same as quoting a poster and I do use the quote function for that.

If it is ok to use the quote function for outside articles, I will use it.

Tbh, it took me a few of your posts (admittedly I skim quite a bit when OOT secretaries post - you, MLY, et al.) to figure out that you were using asterisks as quotes.

If you were looking for the best way to be unclear about who authored the quote, using asterisks, instead of quotation marks or quotation tags, is the optimal strategy.

I will start using the quote function even though it seems it is used mostly for quoting posters and not outside text. You can check my most recent ESA post as an example.

You don't even have to use quote tags, but at least use basic quotation marks like a normal human being. What on earth makes you think asterisks are appropriate for that when there's actual punctuation designed for that exact purpose?

FYI, most people using asterisks like that on the internet are using them to emphasize their own text, pretty much the exact opposite of your intention.
