Fair enough. How about someone being a scammer, liar, and cheat? It’s hard to be a gambler and not have issues with someone so completely lacking in that type of integrity. All of which has been documented time and again now.

That’s correct. We’re perhaps getting close to the semantic difference between awareness and control. I contend that he’s aware that he isn’t a winning gambler, but that he can’t control the impulses and therefore rationalizes.

Have not yet read that book. I think you’ve previously raised the point that El D eluded to in his post a few minutes ago, which is that a beast’s homophobia, anti-semitism and racism are inconsistent with my own views and that I ought NOT to be okay with those. But for whatever reason, I tolerate those in these circumstances.

I suppose I view the world of sports touts as one of caveat emptor. I don’t support his conduct and would never engage in it, as I’m certain you know. But I think it’s all fairly minor in the bigger scope of things, and I find him sufficiently amusing that I don’t get outraged by it. I think generally he isn’t dangerous, and I I feel much more strongly about these same forms of virulence that actually run the risk of doing serious harm. I don’t want to veer this off into a political discussion, and one line heads that way. Remind me of this discussion when I see you next and I’ll make the argument to you live.
