Personally I wouldn't care if people took their shoes off on flights if their feet don't smell. Unfortunately a lot of people can't tell their feet smell or don't care. This is what creates problems.

Yes there were stiffs and tips up to maybe 15%. Just my experience the tips were generally 10% for myself and coworkers. It might be a small town east Texas thing, but 10% was the standard until the chain restaurants put the kiosk in with the option of 20%+.
I of course can't give absolute numbers on a job I worked almost a decade ago.

I've been away and had to catch up on this thread (well worth the time.) I'm disappointed that no one has questioned your use of "kiosk" here. I can't conceive of any typo or other explanation except that you think the little table of suggested tips on a restaurant bill is somehow known as a kiosk. Truly baffling.
