Check me on this, but Spacey didn’t actually molest the 14-year old, although he did make a pass at him. Polanski drugged (valium?) and then raped a 13-year old girl.

I’m obviously not saying Spacey’s conduct was legal, moral or wise. But it wasn’t forcible rape for which he could have done twenty years’ hard time.

Assuming both were forcible rape, is there really a significant stigma difference between the two? Hell if I know; as far as I’m concerned, drugging and raping a 13-year old of either sex ought to be a life sentence, assuming of course PBARD.

I'm not sure; I'd like to think not. Admittedly I've never really read about Polanski's case...he's been hiding outside the US for as long as I've known who he was.

I read about Polanski as it happened; I was in middle school in LA and the times definitely covered it. I’ve never understood why Hollywood gave that child rapist a pass.

Entirely true. Polanski pled to one count, and then the numbnuts judge ran his mouth to a friend that he wasn’t going to accept the sentence that was part of the plea and instead was going to sentence Polanski to fifty years. Polanski found out about it and ran.

I don’t think there was any question about his guilt.

That Charles Manson killed Polanski’s wife eight years earlier doesn’t strike me as a legit reason for forgiveness.

I don't get why sexual harassment is suddenly a big deal now, but a year ago someone could brag on tv about grabbing women's pussies and still be elected president. Is good judgement and respect really more important in people who make movies than in people who lead our nation?

You must've missed it but there was a huge outrage about the pussy grabbing at the time. I also wouldn't be surprised if any of the accused Hollywood guys ends up running and winning the presidency.

I was outraged but I didn't hear much talk about it. I have heard 10x more about Weinstein. And of course W lost his job instead of getting a promotion by the general public.
