I like Greg’s point that it’s not really targeted at the 2+2 (or OOT) crowd.
Full disclosure I enjoy that it’s a running joke in OOT because it very much fits in the theme of my actual life. Which is to say it’s not the first time in my adult life that I was grateful for where I was (the pay, working with people you’ve seen on TV or work you’ve watched like directors and show runners) but it was far from where I was shooting for. For example I’ve been rejected by SNL 6 times, I was told basically “thanks but no thanks” by my writing idols (the creators of Arrested Development) after they optioned my episode spec.
So I know I’m no gift to comedy but those that liked me enough to give me a chance I’m very grateful for. Having said that I’m also grateful that you guys help remind me to keep trying to do better whether that’s in writing or in business.
Note: I only kept submitting for SNL b/c I was hoping one of those times would be a slow/off year and I would sneak into the writers room. I got the clue after year 3 that I either wasn’t good enough or wasn’t what they were looking for.
