I actually have been drinking more water and switched to caffeine free soda when I need that fix. At this point it’s more psychological than physical that I still want at least one caffeinated beverage a day. It’s been part of my daily ritual most of my life since college.
Both my parents are gone and in a better place I hope but my aches for all those people dealing with parents with dementia and alzheimer's. Be strong, hang in there, and remember they have always loved you more than life itself.
I don't care about caffeine, its the carbonation I like. SODA POP
Used to feel this way. When I abstained and drank water for a couple weeks my perspective changed. Still drink one once in a while and beer as well but don't ever crave a coca cola like I did years ago.

I just drink it with food, particularly if hot and/or greasy. I don't ever just grab a soda for a beverage anymore.
I’m not sure what it is about soda but I do drink quite a bit if it. Granted it’s now caffeine free and diet, so just water and chemicals. I don’t like carbonated water but something about soda just hits the spot for me. It’s almost mandatory with pizza.
But I am down to only one caffeinated beverage a day, and lo and behold, my daily headaches have started to subside. Which is great news, of course, but some part of me will miss the old days when I’d down a six pack in a day while watching movies or gaming or whatever. Apparently I just grew more sensitive to caffeine as I got older and now I’m one of those people I used to mock as a kid. Who would ever drink caffeine free diet soda? Me, apparently.
