Stick with the Rugby pic.

The football pic is awful as:

1) Good players don't play in goal at an amateur level and 2) Its clearly a 6-a-side goal rather than a proper 11-a-side one, making the fact that you're not playing at a competitive level far more obvious, no matter how decent a keeper you might actually be.

The Rugby one however, is excellent, as is the DIY one. You look strong, tough and attractive.

I'd also stick with the office one for balance. The 'gentle giant' vibe is a good one to give off.

Only if you get the crazy people from the Amanda Knox thread contained ITT

Or actually, get them contained here, don't allow them to argue over the case, watch them die of nose bleeding.

On the gloved checkout lady, the "people are stupid" point is actually fairly blurry, given that you take pains to point out her "light went on" when you took the offbeat line that you did; writing it that way actually makes it unclear as to whether your point is about her initial stupidity in not realizing what she's doing with the gloves or is about her getting your point without you saying it expressly. In the former, she's dumb; in the latter, not so much.
Disorientated is used by enough people, universities and dictionaries, that we'll just call it a word for now even though it isn't one in Treesong's World.

Definitely the former.

Some folks using it doesn't make it a proper word. Saying universities use it, doesn't make a word. I am curious, however, what dictionary does so?

What's a "proper" word and what is the determining factor for such, and do languages never evolve? Do you still speak in Biblical times? Regardless, I think you and Howard are disorientated. With all the texting and such in this new age, plan for a massive butchering of the English language. Or, maybe it's just cutting to the chase without being superfluous with characters. IDK (whoops, I meant to say I don't know); you and Howard are the academics... LMK.

I guess I'd always use "disoriented" instead of "disorientated," especially because the former is shorter and simpler than the latter. It's a little like the sports world, in which someone who comments is a "commentator" rather than just a "commenter." I've obviously given in on that one, even though I've never quite understood it.

I think new words and new uses are perfectly natural; I just don't like them when I think they're an excuse for intellectual laziness about word choice and meanings. Using "irony" in place of "coincidence" is utterly commonplace in modern use, but it isn't correct. I understand just how much I'm swimming upstream on this point. So too will I continue to abuse the otherwise wise and gracious Alobar for his ridiculous and stubborn refusal to write "probably" rather than the juvenile, idiotic "prolly." And I stubbornly refuse to acknowledge the meaning of "kk" when the little T's text it to me.

Howard,

Terrible analogy. Comment and commentate are not synonymous.

*Sigh* I should never admit to this, but on more than one occasion now, I have backspaced "prolly" to write "probably" because of you. I no doubt will prolly correct myself in the future as well. So you are at least having some sort of impact.

I understood the technical difference between "comment" and "commentary" (the latter of which is what a "commentator" does) to be that the former is singular and the latter plural. But I always thought the plural "commentaries" really took the form of serial criticisms or analysis like Blackstone's commentaries on the laws of England, rather than Jeff Van Gundy playing second fiddle to Mike Breen -- Van Gundy's comments are all in one broadcast and thus to me are more of a single comment rather than a series.

So yes, they're not quite synonyms. I've obviously given up on the issue, but I do believe that the mildly better historically accurate usage for someone like Van Gundy is "commenter" -- his giving comments on a single event at a single sitting, rather than a lengthy series of comments over time on the same thing.

I say "prolly" and "dunno" irl, so its not just a typing thing. In my defense I was raised in hickville

Yeah, Giz thought is was creepy; I just think it's unprofessional (though the situation, as he finally explained it later in the thread, less so since she wasn't a student in his classes for some time). Still, I think the dude is prolly (sic) just some fatty that can't line up a chick and telling tales; with all that college tail, why is he looking to hookup at some ****ty mex diner?

Having a viewpoint doesn't make you a sucky poster. Getting agressively judgemental does. Understanding the difference might get you out of purgetory

I agree, but I go on a 6+ week trip very soon where I won't even have time to browse 2+2, let alone have time to make "sucky" posts in OOT. Do you really think I give a **** about being contained?
