I also am in a hilly area. While I don't do trail runs, no one that does trail runs in this area does 15x50m (that isn't enough distance) or 1600 (that is too long of a hill repeat) repeats. I would think that bleachers would be just as good of a workout for the short repeats. 1600m intervals are a max for track workouts. No one does them for hill repeats... at least no sane person that isn't an Olympic athlete.
If you are an Olympic athlete, I apologize for my naivety.
Dude, again, I do far more than 15 of them when not interrupted. I was stopped after rep 15 and asked him if I could get
back to my workout. I agree with the bleachers sentiment, in terms of leg and cardio workout, but it doesn't emulate the mechanics of running quickly up steep surfaces nearly as well as running quickly up steep surfaces does.
The 1600's and 6 milers are at only a 2-3% slope. Who told you that repeats are only repeats when done at 5/10K pace? If I do 8x1600 slower than 10K pace, are these not repeats? Do these "too long of a hill repeat" combined with traditional, shorter and higher slope repeats have no benefit for a course like the Comrades Marathon, which basically has no real flat surfaces?
