I think it's important to not care about that kind of stuff at all. Outside of INTJville most people don't really give a crap about that kind of stuff.

How'd the date go overall? GL with the blonde, those are the best kind.

I may seem aloof to people I have just met, but it's just because I feel uncomfortable and not because I feel superior. Many people have told me they don't think I'm willing to promote myself enough in social situations.

I wonder if some people infer condescension onto other when they talk about Harvard/Princeton, regardless of whether mentioning the school is appropriate in context.. Like, the sentence "When I was at Princeton...." is heard as having a different tone than the sentence "When I was at Kansas State...", even if the rest of the sentence is the same.

I know that many people from Harvard deliberately avoid saying "Harvard" in casual conversation, even when directly asked where they go to school. I've never done this....is seems much more condescending to say you went to school "in Boston" (or whatever), because you believe your school is so awe-inducing that its name cannot be spoken.

It's worth mentioning that the best date I've been on in the past 2 months was with a girl who just graduated from Harvard. It's not because we both only wanted to go out with someone who went to Harvard, or even wanted to talk about school that much. But I think we both felt much more at ease with talking about our college experience without anyone stereotyping us merely because we were talking about it.
When you say Harvard, do you elongate the "ar" sound?

amazinmets, are you going on a lot of dates from OK?

Been on the site for two weeks now. Sent out 13 messages, 1 response. Guess the baseball angle works.

POF is better for getting dates, OKC has higher quality. I mass message on POF, and read profiles before messaging on OKC.

Were the messages you sent out copy and paste? We're close to the same age and live in the same city, so we're going to message the same chicks.

Hey there! I usually just skim profiles but I actually read yours and you seem pretty cool, it's refreshing to see someone who can actually spell properly on here, too! Most girls I've seen write lyk dis. Anyways, I'm Dirty Mags and I was just saying hi and hoping to get to know you better.

PS
Really great choice in music, I've just starting getting in to a few of those bands myself

This seems like a really good line if you're going to try mass-messaging!

That's not encouraging, there's a severe lack of talent on OKC. Small pool too, I'm constantly seeing the same faces. No copy/paste messaging, all unique. You must be taking my dates!!!

POF has a larger quantity than OKC, so I guess it balances out. The quality of chicks probably upswings as you get past the early 20s. Yea, you're going constantly see the same faces.

Haha, I doubt it.

Just rescheduled an 8:00 first date, an hour before it started, to 8:30 because the football game is going down to the wire. Reasonable, dickish, or no big deal?

You still might not make it on time if you're planning to watch the whole game.

You will see the same faces a lot on OKC...but if you are tired of having someone pop up in your matches, just hide them.

I find it much harder to find girls to message on POF because (a) a much higher percentage of girls are obese or have children; and (b) most of the attractive women have almost nothing in their profile.

Nick,

"When I was at Princeton, ..." is much worse than "when I was in college/grad school/etc."

Agreed. Although kids is not a deal breaker for me. Are you a paid member on POF too?

No, I'm only a paid member on Match and OKC.

Is Match worth the astronomical price they charge?

you can pay for OKC? what are the benefits besides being invisible?

I don't know how, but pretty sure I got adware installed when I upgraded to A-list on OKC, so buyer beware. They're all dating-related pop-ups that get past my blocker, and only come up when I go to OKC

Besides invisibility, the other major benefit is being able to search on body type/attractiveness.

In terms of the quality of girls, you can always create a free profile and see for yourself. Girls seem much more willing to "wink" on match than initiate contact on any other site.

As for the price, I just look at it as being inexpensive relative to the actual cost of a date. I think you can get the price reduced by signing up and then trying to cancel.

I somewhat noticed this. I don't think I've ever heard anyone say "When I was at Tennessee State", but I certainly hear it from people with elite education backgrounds. Whether its conscious or not is another story, but it certainly strikes me as elitist. The one exception to this is a guy I know who went to Princeton who was mentioning about how they had a crap football team or something of the sort.

Isn't match like $15-20 a month? That doesn't strike me as astronomical.

And, Nick, yeah, I wouldn't reference Princeton or Harvard. If they ask where you went, then of course tell them. But otherwise, I would just say during college or grad school. I went to an elite school too, and if I'm talking to someone I just say "in grad school" or something like that. It does kind of come off as douchy and name dropping.
